A new Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) is proposed for Oldham to support regeneration, unlock investment, and create new opportunities for residents. This is a significant opportunity to drive positive change in the area – improving transport links, building new homes, supporting local businesses, and making Oldham a better place to live, work and visit.

This is your opportunity to help shape those plans.

People and partners from across Greater Manchester and beyond joined us and We're Right Here to celebrate Live Well, community power and the amazing things being achieved in our communities - sharing stories, ideas and a million acts of hope. Dementia Disco provided the soundtrack and Elevate Young Minds dance troop really brought Live Well to life.

From improving access and skills, to supporting people to live well in their communities, the energy in the room was a reminder of what’s possible when we work together.

Throughout the event, people shared their hopes for the future – from more connected communities, to a Greater Manchester where everyone can thrive.

Swipe through some snippets of what hope means in our communities.

We'd like to thank everyone who has shown their support, because building a city region where everyone can live well doesn’t happen in one moment, it happens through collective action, every day.

GMFRS continues to play a key role in delivering our Greater Manchester Strategy, and this plan sets out the Service’s key areas of work over the coming 12 months.

Together, we’re building a thriving city region where everyone can live well in safer communities.

📢 Our Annual Delivery Plan 2026-27 is now live!

This is our second year of delivering the ambitions set out in the Fire Plan (2025–29) as we build on the momentum from the last 12 months.

The 2026-27 plan will look to impact how our firefighters train, how we deploy resources, how we support health and wellbeing and the investment in our stations and equipment.

A proud moment for our staff networks 👏

Yesterday, marking Staff Networks Day, colleagues from networks across GMCA and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) collected their Stellar Standard award in London.

A fantastic and well-deserved achievement, recognising the difference they make every day - supporting colleagues and helping shape more inclusive workplaces.

We’ve also been speaking to network leads in our new internal podcast series including GMFRS and Bee Network sharing why getting involved matters.

A brilliant and well-deserved week of recognition for the impact our networks make every day 💛

It’s Foster Care Fortnight and ‘This is Fostering’, shining a light on the everyday realities of fostering and raising awareness of the profound impact foster carers have on children’s lives. Each day over the next two weeks on https://orlo.uk/YshJe twelve Greater Manchester foster families are sharing their experiences of life as a foster carer.

Many more foster carers are urgently needed to ensure every child can be matched with the right home for their individual needs.

Foster for Greater Manchester is a collaborative partnership between all ten Greater Manchester local councils. Together we are growing the number of foster carers who can provide safe and loving homes for children and young people.

Today, as the funeral of Eamonn Boylan OBE takes place, we pause to remember the lasting contribution he made to Greater Manchester and its people.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and those who worked with him during his 40 years of public service.

An online Book of Remembrance remains available for those who wish to share a message in memory of Eamonn: https://orlo.uk/PAY0L

Yesterday, our Regeneration Skills Academy visited Ashton as the town centre undergoes major development to renew the historic market ground.

Thank you to Tameside Council for hosting us and sharing Tameside’s future plans. A town centre tour highlighted how Ashton is building on successes like Ashton Old Baths while progressing new transformative projects.

In the afternoon, we heard from Bek Seeley, from Place Partners UK, about the key fundamentals for making the case when seeking investment for regeneration projects.

Through the Regeneration Skills Academy, we’re building the skills needed to deliver ambitious regeneration across Greater Manchester.
