We are a group of engineers at the University of Manchester who are a part of a wider organisation called Engineers Without Borders-UK (EWB-UK). EWB are a young person-led charity that focuses on removing barriers to human development through engineering. Their programmes provide opportunities for young engineers in the UK to learn about technology's role in development. By taking part in activiti

es, and with the support of the EWB-UK community, EWB members are making a difference to people's lives around the world. The aims of the Manchester committee are to organise outreach to local schools to promote engineering and awareness of international development issues; design and test projects; hold events, talks and research for members and to liase with the national organisation in order to work with other branches and to advertise and subsidise trips to training events across the country.

We are excited to announce that the nominations for next year's committee are now open!

Joining a committee is a great way to earn a leadership role for the stellify award, and will give you a chance to gain experience running a society. You'll get the chance to plan events and outreach, collaborate with other societies, and other engineers without borders chapters across the UK.
Engineers Without Borders UK is a national organisation that aims to put global responsibility at the heart of engineering, and offers support to all its university chapters by providing resources and help planning events and volunteering sessions. If you want to get involved with their work joining a chapter is a good opportunity to learn more about sustainability, and get the opportunity to run your own society, and plan the events you want to go to!

No experience is required to join the committee, and all courses are welcome, all you have to do is make sure you have joined the society on the SU website.

The nomination period is running from now until 8th May at 12 noon, you find the student union nomination page at this link https://manchesterstudentsunion.com/elections/list
Voting will take place between 9th and 12th May.

We look forward to seeing your applications!

Hi everyone!
There's an interesting panel event happening 9th June, organised by Student Young Pugwash UKโ€™s Project on Ethical Science. The event is on Ethical Careers in STEM and one of the EWB UK trustees is speaking on the panel!

Student Young Pugwash UKโ€™s Project on Ethical Science will be hosting a virtual careers event exploring different opportunities available to STEM graduates. Our panellists, from the civil service, the third sector and industry, will explore the ethical considerations that have guided their own careers and provide advice for STEM students and recent graduates on how to pursue ethically-minded careers in science and technology.

Ethical Careers in STEM - June 9th at 4pm BST

Millions of people in Peru don't have reliable access to drinking water, despite a large percentage of the population living on the coast.
The solar distiller was designed to provide a sustainable solution to this problem by using heat from the sun to distill seawater. ๐ŸŒŠโ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ’ง

In this session you'll be able to see how the solar distiller has developed and changed, and get the chance to suggest any improvements you think should be made ๐Ÿค”

We will be joined by one of the founders of EcoSwell, Andres, as well as an EcoSwell student ambassador here at Manchester, who volunteered on this project last summer, and not forgetting our mystery guest, who is a senior engineer working on the solar distiller in Peru right now! ๐ŸŒŽ๐ŸŒฟ

Here's a chance for you to put theory into practice, gain valuable skills and rewarding experiences that university canโ€™t offer. All whilst making a positive impact on peopleโ€™s lives and protecting the natural environment.

Be ready to be inspired by Ecoswell, an NGO since 2013, founded by 4 friends with different university degrees, on a journey to help developing coastal communities in Peru through sustainable measures, focused on the implementation of UN sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Join us on Monday, 22th March at 5pm (GMT) and talk to one of the founders Michael, who will be introducing the organisation and the volunteer internship program, which encompasses a variety of projects, calling out to both engineering and non engineering students!

You will also be hearing from an EcoSwell student ambassador, who is also a fellow student at The University of Manchester, who will share his experience volunteering with EcoSwell last summer.
