You may notice an increased police presence around University of Manchester student accommodation in .

This follows reports of a recent rise in bike thefts in and around student housing, and neighbourhood officers are proactively patrolling the area to help deter further thefts and keep the community safe.

Our officers are there to support you, so please feel free to say hello and speak to them if you have any concerns or information. We’re listening and taking action to help ensure Fallowfield remains a safe place to live and study.

| We were called to reports of a concern for welfare on Platt Lane in Fallowfield yesterday morning (Thursday 7 May 2026).

Despite the best efforts of emergency services personnel, a baby girl sadly died at hospital.

A 25-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and is in police custody.

The scene will remain in place whilst officers conduct their investigation.

Melanie O'Keefe (63), sadly died at her address on Sheerness St, , on 13/04/2026.

She is believed to have a daughter called Kelsey living in South Manchester.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

Anyone with information about Melanie’s next of kin should contact the police coroner’s office for Manchester Central on 0161 856 3018.

| Recently, PC Noone and PC Service from the and neighbourhood team conducted speed enforcement on Kingsway. During the deployment several vehicles were recorded exceeding the speed limit with the highest being 61mph in a 30mph zone - this driver will now be summonsed to attend court.

Following on from the speed enforcement, a vehicle was sighted on Arbor Drive, Burnage. The driver had a provisional licence and was being supervised by a non-licence holder with no L plates on display. The driver will now be summonsed to attend court for driving overwise than in accordance with a licence and no insurance.

Towards the end of the shift, the team attended a report of a road traffic collision on Burnage Lane where a vehicle had collided with several other vehicles. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a class A drug.
