Manchester Young Lives

Manchester Young Lives Manchester Young Lives is a registered charity that works with children & young people in some of the most disadvantaged areas of Manchester.

About Us

Our work was originally centred on the development and management of adventure playgrounds in Ardwick, Moss Side, Hulme, and Wythenshawe. In recent years we have successfully developed a number of youth work and educational/training programmes, particularly targeted at children and young people at risk of social exclusion. The culmination of these efforts was the establishment of Manches

ter Young Lives Independent School in 2010. We believe the integration of play, confidence building, and education within an informal and supportive environment provides a genuine opportunity for early intervention with children and young people who are at risk of falling outside mainstream services and becoming involved in anti-social and risky behaviours. Our work includes
•Adventure playgrounds – Providing year-round after school and holiday open access play facilities for 5-14 year olds. A safe and supportive environment for children and families.
•Independent School – The A6, Moss Side and Wythenshawe Education Centres provide full time education provision for 14-16 year olds not attending mainstream school. Offering a broad and balanced curriculum and qualifications (including GCSE and Functional Skills), the school aims to support young people in the completion of their secondary education, and in taking the next steps to further learning and employment.
•Youth engagement projects – Based at four of our centres, these projects offer a range of centre based and outreach provision aimed at developing personal and social skills and supporting young people into education, training and employment
•A purpose built youth fitness centre in Ardwick. Funded by Sport England.

Less than a week left to apply 📢

If you are interested in becoming a part of our team, we would love to hear from you in the next couple of days!

We are looking for:

Summer Play Worker: 🌞
If you’re passionate about making a difference to children and young people and have skills in creative or therapeutic arts, sports, play or other outdoor activities then we want to hear from you. We’re looking for team members who are innovative and creative, have lots of energy and a sense of fun. It is also really important that you have the patience and tolerance required to work with 5–16-year-olds.

Garden Play Worker: 🌱
If you enjoy being outside, love gardening, and have a natural ability to engage and inspire children through play, this role could be perfect for you. This role will require you to: develop and support an engaging garden project within our outdoor play space; facilitate creative nature-based play and learning activities; build positive trusting relationships with children; and encourage teamwork, responsibility, and enjoyment of the outdoors.

Early Intervention Worker: 🙌
If you can bring enthusiasm and compassion for working with young people, while being creative and innovative in your approaches to your work, then we want to hear from you. This role involves working directly with children and young people through face-to-face support, while also integrating into Play and Youth Sessions at our Adventure Playgrounds. You will work closely with families, schools, and other education and support agencies to help create the best possible opportunities and outcomes for the children and young people we support.

Just a few photos from our very sunny community day last week! 🎉🎉

We’re so happy with how the day unfolded, with badminton, archery, arts and crafts, and prizes up for grabs for the hook a duck! ⛱⛱

It was fantastic to see the community come together and share their thoughts on Wythenshawe for the Pride in Place survey and raffle (congratulations to our winners!). We have now received so many thoughts and opinions from both adults and young people about Wythenshawe, and all of these will be fed back to Manchester City Council to let them know where you want the money spent.

A huge thank you to for their fantastic work with the U5s area, and to for surprising our young people with a visit from Spiderman and a princess! ☀☀

Thanks also to for using Pride in Place funding to make this day possible.

One lucky Moss Side learner, whose passion for music is opening up exciting new opportunities

Working alongside the incredible Rio Ferdinand Foundation, they’ve been developing their creative skills by learning how to write lyrics, mix music, and express themselves through sound.

It’s inspiring to see talent, confidence, and creativity grow through music, and we can’t wait to hear what comes next. Keep pushing boundaries and chasing your dreams!

Community day at The Addy! ⛱️⛱️⛱️

Children and young people from Wythenshawe are invited alongside their families to join us this half term on Wednesday the 27th of May for a free beach themed community day at The Addy.

Activities include a DJ, a buffet, team games and crafts, as well as events focused on what children and young people want to see in Wythenshawe.

This is a fantastic opportunity for children and young people to be given a voice in, and have an influence over, the future of their community, and the Wythenshawe that they want to grow up in.

All opinions from the event will be fed directly back to the council to help inform how the ‘Pride in Place Regeneration Fund' will be spent.

You know your community better than anyone, so come along to the Addy community day, have fun and have your say! We look forward to seeing you there.

A huge thanks to Manchester City Council for using Pride in Place funding to make this day possible.
