Issue in Victoria Park, Denton has been logged with Tameside Council today (12/10/2026) to have the statue ‘dedicated to the workers of the hatting industry’ cleaned up as it appears that some people have a lack of respect for our local history and recreational areas.

There is also a lot of profanities graffitied on the walls as you walk in to the park which will no doubt offend many people. This needs to be removed as soon as possible!

Sterling effort! I was sat behind Cllr James Rhodes and I could tell how much pain he was in. Especially after the meeting dragged on in to the early hours of the following day!

A huge thank you to all the staff at Tameside General, particularly the orthopaedic and day surgery teams.

Following emergency surgery over the weekend, the care I received was absolutely outstanding. But what really stood out was the massive effort they made to get me discharged in time for Full Council on Tuesday.

And this wasn't just another council meeting.

We were facing Angela Rayner's planning reforms, changes that would strip back the ability of elected councillors to bring planning applications before a public committee. In my view, a direct attack on local democracy and the voices of the residents we're elected to represent.

I wasn't prepared to miss the opportunity to stand up for Dukinfield on something this important.

And we won that vote! By 26 votes to 22, Reform UK, Conservative and Independent councillors stood together and rejected Labour's proposed changes.

The hospital staff understood how much being there mattered to me and went above and beyond to make it possible.

Discharged at 4.55pm. In the Council Chamber by 5.15pm!

Twenty minutes. Cutting it a bit fine, admittedly!

I cannot thank everyone involved enough. Their professionalism, kindness and determination made all the difference.

Absolute champions, the lot of you. A credit to our NHS.

BREAKING NEWS: A statue will be erected to honour the memory of legendary Greater Manchester boxer Ricky Hatton 💙

Hatton sadly passed away in 2025, at the age of 46. More than one year on from his death, the shockwaves of his passing are still being felt across Greater Manchester.

The champion boxer was known across the globe for blockbuster fights against the likes of Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao.

One of his most memorable moments was his brutal stoppage of Kostya Tszyu at the Manchester Arena.

In the wake of his death, an online petition to build a statue in Ricky’s honour was signed by more than 9,000 people.

And now, politicians in Tameside are looking to immortalise the fighter’s memory by building a statue in his honour.

Allan Hopwood, leader of Reform in Tameside, tabled a motion at the latest town hall meeting to get moving with the statue. He called for it to be built in either Hyde town centre or Hattersley, where Hatton grew up.

Funded through fundraisers and not to cost the town hall a penny. Coun Hopwood added that the community would also be included in the design creation for the statue.

Further details are yet to be released.

It was good to get this one over the line!

Ricky Hatton fought for his family, his local residents in Tameside and his Country.

Just as we at the Tameside Reform Group will do to help get Tameside back on the right track and bring civic pride back to the borough.

This was also voted through on what would have been his 48th birthday.

He is a local champion and deserves to be remembered for generations to come!

Huge wins for the people of Tameside and the Reform Group at Full Council on 6 October. It was a seven hour meeting but it was definitely worth it!

☑️ National planning imposition -Rejected
☑️ Progress on transparency over historic r**e gang and CSE cases, although more is still to be done
☑️ Motion concerning scrutiny over children’s services and democratic processes - Passed
🥊 Ricky Hatton statue - Passed

This is a first in the history of Tameside. Labour outright lost a vote on two motions and was forced to shift position on two more.

This is what effective opposition can do for the people of our borough. This is what you voted for last May. Imagine what Reform can achieve with full control next year.

This is one that I am personally very passionate about and I would love to see a statue of Ricky Hatton be placed in the centre of Hyde.

What an example this champion was and still is. 🇬🇧 🥊

Cllr Allan Hopwood will ask Tameside Council to support and start a project for a statue in honour of Ricky Hatton, in either Hyde town centre or Hattersley.

Hatton, a world-recognised boxing champion and a proud son of Hyde, is described in the motion as embodying the spirit, resilience and pride of the community.

The statue would celebrate his achievements, inspire local young people and add to the town’s cultural heritage.

The motion calls on the council to work with community partners, help secure funding jointly, and involve local artists. Hopwood is inviting councillors of all parties to support it.
