This has been a familiar sight over the last week or so, our alert system telling us to go to an incident. Weโ€™ve been massively busy lately.

We have however been very well looked after, thanks to Dave at March Quality Meats for supplying us with burgers for everyone at the station. We really appreciate your support and look forward to cooking them up when we have some downtime โค๏ธ

UPDATE 10pm - Firefighters are continuing to work in sectors to extinguish the fire at Holme Fen Nature Reserve.

They will remain on scene overnight tackling the fire and ensuring the area is safe.

Please do continue to stay away from the area so crews can carry out their work as safely as possible.

Thank you for your continued patience.

More updates can be found on our website - https://www.cambsfire.gov.uk/news-and-incidents/incidents/2026-08-08-fire-in-the-open-holme

----------------------------

UPDATE 9pm - Thank you to all the farmers and members of the public who have offered water to help us with the ongoing incident at Holme Fen.

As it stands, we have enough water and bowsers for our firefighters to continue tackling this incident, and do not require further water at this time.

Thank you again for your continued help whilst firefighters work to tackle this fire.

-----------------------------

UPDATE 8.22pm - Firefighters are continuing to work hard to extinguish the fire at Holme Fen Nature Reserve.

Please be aware that there are now several road closures in place.

- The junction of Hod Fen Drove and Holme Lode
- All of Holme Lode
- The junction of Long Drove/B660 and New Long Drove.

Please avoid all routes in the area when possible, and please do not enter the area of the Nature Reserve at any time, for your own safety.

---------------------------------------

Crews are still responding to a fire at Holme Fen Nature Reserve in Holme. More than 80 firefighters are at the scene, including from neighbouring fire and rescue services, and other specialist vehicles are in attendance.

Crews have remained on scene throughout the day in arduous conditions tackling a large fire there, that started yesterday morning around 10.30am.

They are continuing to work hard to contain the fire and stop it from spreading further, and have been working in sectors.

Due to the current weather conditions, you may still be seeing or smelling smoke in and around the area, but please be advised that this is more than likely still coming from Holme Fen.

Please avoid the area as we deal with this incident. We are asking members of the public to avoid the area where possible so crews can carry out their work as safely as possible.

Last week, one of our March crews was mobilised to assist Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service at the large wildfire on Dunwich Heath.

With the hot and dry conditions making the incident particularly challenging, our crew worked alongside firefighters from across the region to support firefighting operations and help bring the situation under control. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ

It was great to see so many fire stations and services come together, working as one team and supporting each other when it was needed most.

Weโ€™re always proud to be able to lend a hand, and even prouder to see the fire service pull together across county borders. A fantastic example of teamwork, commitment and mutual aid. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿš’

Well done to everyone involved. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Our on-call firefighters have played a key role in responding to incidents across the county during one of our busiest periods of the year. ๐Ÿš’

Over the past week or so, on-call firefighters from 24 stations have supported crews at a wide range of incidents in their local communities.

With demand on the Service increasing, many on-call firefighters made themselves available around work, family and other commitments, including summer holidays, to ensure they were ready to respond when needed.

Group Commander Paul Oliver, head of the on-call group, said: "They have altered personal plans, stepped up their availability and worked tirelessly to keep fire engines available and ready to respond. Their commitment, professionalism and flexibility have been invaluable, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they have done.

โ€œThanks to their dedication, we have been able to maintain fire engine availability, moving resources across the county where they are needed most and continued to respond to incidents as quickly and effectively as possible."
