Many thanks to the late George Dennis from Garlinge near Margate who very kindly recommended me to the boss at Stand-fast Alarms for an apprenticeship at 17 years old, and I haven’t looked back since. This was in 1984 when Burglar alarms were still in their infancy being operated with keys and global tampers, window foil on shop windows and tube and batten frames-those were the days. Nick teamed up with George Dennis, Paul Golds, and Mark Smith, and installed many house and commercial alarm systems including the old Hover port at Pegwell Bay near Ramsgate which was a very interesting place to explore as it was empty and derelict when we installed the alarm. The old Dreamland Cinema in Margate, The Tudor House in Margate, Lexterten Furniture, Pysons road, Broadstairs-long since gone, are all alarm installations the Nick installed with Paul and Mark. After his apprenticeship, Nick moved to another very well known Birchington company, where he progressed and used his wealth of experience to help the Birchington company gain NSCIA approval. Fast-forward to today and Nick has a huge wealth of experience, both on the installation side, servicing and fault-finding. 36 years in the industry and enjoying every day. I have seen so many alarm companies come and go over the years. Most go because they have no experience whatsoever and think Alarms is an easy career and have been very badly managed. It has taken me 36 years, and I am still learning,

Thursday 26th January 2026.
Just before Christmas a lovely retired couple contacted us in Palm Bay near Cliftonville with a control panel problem.
They were quoted a lot of money to replace the whole Alarm system by two local companies.
Home Guard Fire and Security were recommended to them by a neighbour.
We replaced the voltage regulator , Capacitors and a few other components.
Now there Alarm system is working again as intended for the cost of a few electronic components.

Our prices have Not increased in Five years. As we go into 2026 and beyond there are no plans to increase prices.

Its been a very busy two plus weeks since Christmas and here we are on the 19th January 2026.
Firstly Thank you to all the new customers coming to us from other companies. This is the 6th year that we haven't increased our prices.

Happy New Year 2026 to our customers.
We haven't stopped over the Christmas break.
Our engineer on call was woken up at around 4.30 am because of a Power Cut that affected homes in the area near the Wheatsheaf / Hungry Horse pub restaurant area of Margate.
We have continued to service both Burglar and Fire Alarms during the Christmas holidays.

Monday 22nd December 2025. We have had the pleasure of going back to an installation we installed in August 1997. Yes 28 years ago in Birchington.

The standby rechargeable battery had finally given up.
These batteries last approximately 3 - 5 years on average with some occasionally lasting upwards of 10 years.

Hours are 8 am - 6 pm 23rd December

8 am - 6 pm Christmas Eve

Christmas Day and Boxing Day an engineer will be on call on 07770 397668.

Saturday 27th We are back to normal hours 8am - 6 pm.

We are probably the cheapest Alarm company in Thanet. Up to 50 % cheaper than other companies.

We Do Not charge VAT. Customers are telling us this was part of the reason for calling us.

It has been a very busy couple of weeks due to the volume of new work and customer's moving to us from other companies. We have been working on both Saturday and Sunday 21st December this week.

Sunday 21st December 2025 a block of flats in Cliftonville was left with faults on its Fire alarm system after the caretaker / handyman thought he could repair a fault. We also had an electrician who left a house with a fault and only some of the house working then went on holiday. Nice.

More Burglar alarm takeovers even if they have been installed in telephone cable .

It has been a very busy 10 + days for us at Home Guard Fire and Security in Manston near Ramsgate.
Dealing with a power cut in Margate town centre on Sunday 16th November 2025 mid-Afternoon.
We have been to Faversham , Teynham , Sittingbourne and Iwade.
Installs and servicing in Margate , Broadstairs and Ramsgate.
We have taken on some new customers from NSI Nacoss companies and i will say the workmanship was awful. Plus no paperwork resistance or voltage readings. Everything you would expect from accredited company.
This company charged more than 100 % higher prices than we do.

Its now Saturday 8th November 2025. Home Guard Fire and Security in Manston near Ramsgate have been very busy this week , completing an upgrade of an Alarm we installed 15 years ago at a Farm in Ospringe near Faversham. We replaced a Scantronic 9651 EN which had developed an odd fault that was due to a component failure.
We have now installed our very last Scantronic 9751 EN which are no longer manufacturered. We bought loads when they were being discontinued. We also fitted a 7 amp battery not shown in the pictures.

Today Saturday is our OAP discount day. Alarm Services and fault calls for retired people cost just £25.00 No VAT to be added.

Its Wednesday 5th November 2025.
Just a quick mention that if you have a mains electric smoke / heat detector in your house or flat , it is very easy to replace the 9 voltage PP3 battery inside when its beeping due to a low battery.
We have done 4 of them this week , two of them we didn't charge because the customers were elderly.

If you need help we will , but they are easy to change and you don't need to call an electrician or Fire alarm company to do it for you.

Its Tuesday 4th November 2025 what a busy ten days for Home Guard Fire and Security in Manston near Ramsgate.
Firstly in the middle of the night last week we had a call from an Italian number. Probably spam we thought but we answered the call. The owner here speaks a little Italian so we were able to help the Gentleman from Naples in Italy. He tried contacting a few Italian alarm companies but no one answered. We were in a position to help and resolve his Accenta problem.
Its been a mixture of Fire and Burglar alarm take overs.
Everything has been in Thanet except the Italian Gentleman.

We have also been asked by Thanet District Council to carry out Fire Risk assessments at a few Cliftonville properties for them. Having had our work inspected by the Council on Thursday.

Its been a very busy ten days as of Monday 27th October 2025 several burglar alarm take overs in Palm Bay near Margate , Broadstairs and on Saturday a customer taking advantage of our £25.00 call out service offer for the over 65s. This is something we have been doing for the last few months.
You have to be over 65 years old , retired to take advantage of this price and only on a Saturday.

Its Sunday 12th October 2025. Yesterday Saturday 11th October 2025 we completed another Fire alarm control panel upgrade very close to the seafront in Margate.
Our normal working week is Monday - Saturday. 8.00 am - 6.00 pm On call out of hours.

We are probably the cheapest Security company in Thanet and the surrounding area.

Judging by the email's we are receiving from new customers looking to move away from their existing Security system company , We are in most cases up to 60 % cheaper. We have not increased our prices for 5 years and counting.
