STARMER IS GOING TO BE TEN YEARS TOO LATE.

As someone who proudly served over 18 years in the British Army, I find Keir Starmer’s latest defence plan nothing short of preposterous.

Does he not realise that by the time these grand ideas come to fruition, we’ll be facing a completely new threat we didn’t even see coming?

We don’t need a ten-year wishlist, we need a force that’s ready now. The Tories may have gutted our manpower, but that can be fixed. What can’t wait is the kit. Military equipment is like tech: by the time it’s delivered, it’s already outdated. Now imagine trying to fight a modern war with a ten-year-old computer.

What we need is a defence budget that delivers real capability, fast. Starmer’s 2.5% target? That’s barely half of what’s actually needed.

Let’s not forget, this is the same man who promised to smash the gangs. Yet we all see how that’s going. If he can’t stop cowardly men crossing the Channel in rubber boats, how exactly is he going to build the world’s most capable armed forces?

And of course, the pink elephant in the room: Labour won’t be in power in ten years. At this rate, they’ll be lucky to last four.

I have an idea. Why don't we simply concentrate on the best candidate regardless of ethnicity, colour, religion, s*x, or s*xual orientation.

By removing the diversity we clearly have far more money to actually do the job in hand, and more importantly with the best people for the job.

I would say that this is shocking however its not. Under Labour this is set to get a whole lot worse, and let us not forget the Torys were not much better.

It’s a fact, Labour are happy to let every single one on, and 99% will stay.
Only Reform UK will remove the lot of them and stop them arriving.

Cheawardine Parish Council have again reiterated the closure of your village hub today with a slight difference.

They now state that it is planned as temporary, a complete change from several days ago, most likely due to public pressure.

They have again mentioned the singling out of individual councillors, which I would like to address.

As a councillor for the Parish and Division, one works for the people, not those working for it. One will wade public scrutiny if one decides to make that task public through modern media such as FaceBook.

Bullying or harassment must never happen. Intimidation is not a tactic to force a councillor who has given their free time to their community. No matter who they are.

When a Parish councillor is the only one with a public profile as the said councillor, they may seem singled out as there is no other place to vent frustration.

There is only one Division councillor, and will be singled out as such.

A division councillor will not represent every part of their constituency if they remain in a parish within that area. This should never be allowed to happen.

It must be one or the other.

In questioning the closure of the Cheswardine hub with Cllr Bentley, it was not known that he remained in the local parish.
Cllr Bentley was contacted as Division Cllr due to his links with the parish. Once it became apparent that he was remaining on the parish council, he received enquiries into its closure and reopening.

It was not stated that the hub may re-open for books only.

I do not use the Hub; it is not in my village and affects me in no way whatsoever. For my area of interest, I fall under Sutton upon Tern. However, I will always question right from wrong, wherever I see it within The Wrekin, to help those who need a voice.

We will get the hub re-opened. They can say it’s a change of heart, a new way of doing things, but I’m sure it will open again. If you can volunteer your time to help maintain it, write to the parish clerk and tell them.

When it re-opens though please treat it with respect and the love it needs. Only items that the hub makes fuly aware are allowed to be left, should be.

I can't try and help if it is a constant battle. The parish would never open it a third time.

Response to the Statement from the Chair of Cheswardine Parish Council Regarding the Community Hub

As a local campaigner for Cheswardine, and The Wrekin as a whole, I’d like to thank the Parish Council for their continued service to the community, and for clarifying their position on the sudden closure of the Community Hub. However, I understand that many residents feel deeply disappointed by the way this matter has been handled and wish to raise the following points constructively:

1. Demand for Transparency
The statement references “feedback” and “recent instances” of misuse by individuals from outside the parish, including items such as inappropriate DVDs, knives, and broken glass.

These are serious claims. If they have been documented, we ask the Council to provide evidence, such as:

• Reports from the volunteers indicating frequency and dates.
• Any identifiable evidence showing the items were left by individuals from outside the parish.

One can understand entirely if this has been going on for a long period of time, and documented. Whilst warning residence regularly in the process.

Without transparency, these claims risk painting an unfair picture of both local users and neighbouring communities, and may be seen as a justification for a decision many feel was rushed.

2. Value to Local Residents
The hub was much more than a donation point, it was a symbol of their community spirit, mutual support, and sustainability.
Most users were responsible, and many residents took pride in maintaining it. If a small number of individuals misused it, that should not result in the entire closure without warning or consultation.
3. Request for Consultation Before Closure

It is concerning that such a significant community resource could be closed down without public consultation, especially given that alternative measures (e.g. clearer signage, or cameras could have been trialled first.

4. Safeguarding Should Be Proportionate and Balanced

We agree entirely that the safety of children is paramount. But rather than full closure, a safer redesign or more structured management of the space should have been considered. We believe most residents would have supported extra safeguarding steps if given the opportunity to help.

5. Future of the Hub – Let Residents Help Decide

If the Council is genuine in its desire to reintroduce the hub, we urge you to open a formal consultation or public meeting to allow residents and volunteers to shape its return. This would foster collaboration, not division. I must remind you that you work for the community, not the other way around.

6. Knives in local are a grave concern. If these could be knives used for crime it is a serious issue. What is the local council, and the wider council doing to prevent local knife crime?

Are local children being made aware on the dangers of carrying a knife.

7. You mention singling out of certain people. That would be Cllr Bentley who you are talking about. As the elected Councillor for Cheswardine, I feel strongly that he is to be made aware of such local issues.

At the time of my initial contact, both public and otherwise, I was not aware that he remained in the Parish Council. This to me is a contradiction, and could lead abuse of powers either in favour or against the specific village of Cheswardine.

He must resign from the parish, in order to maintain a distance from local parish matters.

In conclusion, while safeguarding and sustainability are important, decisions like this should be made transparently and inclusively. A blanket closure without solid evidence or prior discussion risks undermining trust between the Council and the very residents it serves.

We respectfully request that the Parish Council reconsiders its approach and includes the wider community in planning the next steps for the hub.

Stronger warnings and signage being one such meassure.
Having more, and regular voluntary involvement in its management would also help.

Sincerely,

Andy

Keir Starmer has blocked every single measure we’ve put forward to cut immigration. So, it's obvious that his new policy will fail. Labour need to do the right thing and back our Deportation Bill.
