🔥Is your chimney ready ahead of log burner season? 🔥

There’s nothing quite like getting the log burner going on a chilly evening… but when was the last time you had your chimney swept? 🏠

Even a lined chimney needs regular sweeping. A build-up of soot and deposits inside the flue can increase the risk of a chimney fire.

🧹 If you burn wood, the guidance recommends having your chimney swept quarterly when in use.

Before you light up, ask yourself:
👉 When was my chimney last swept?
👉 Is my log burner and fireplace clean and well maintained?
👉 Am I ready for the colder months?

A cosy fire should be a safe fire. ❤️🔥

We'd like to start the week with some positive news and a BIG thank you!

We've had confirmation from The Fire Fighters Charity; our charity car wash in May and the Open Day in July raised a total of £2811.29! 😁😁😁

Firstly, thank you so much to everyone who attended the events and donated to the charity. We'd like to extend that to all the companies and organisations who supported us on those days. In particular, The Garage Bakehouse who donated a very generous amount.

🚨 It's the first of the month, which means it's time to test your smoke alarms! 🚨

Smoke alarms save lives, but only if they're working. Press the test button until the alarm sounds and make sure every alarm in your home is working properly.

✅ Fit a smoke alarm on every level of your home
✅ Test them monthly
✅ Replace removable batteries every year
✅ Replace alarms when they reach the end of their lifespan

Remember, smoke alarms should be fitted on ceilings, ideally in hallways and landings where they can be heard throughout your home. Avoid placing them in or near kitchens and bathrooms, where cooking fumes or steam can trigger false alarms.

Following weeks of persistent dry weather, the risk of wildfires is now extremely high. Even a small flame can rapidly develop into a major wildfire, putting lives, homes, businesses and our emergency responders at risk.

We urge the public to be extremely vigilant and to do nothing that might exacerbate this risk.

🚨 We shouldn’t have to say this, but fireworks and heatwaves don’t mix.

With the ground already tinder-dry and our crews dealing with significant numbers of outdoor fires - several of them started deliberately - setting off fireworks right now is incredibly irresponsible.

Fireworks can easily ignite dry grass, fields and vegetation, and a small fire can spread rapidly in these conditions.

Please don’t use fireworks during this hot, dry weather.

Our firefighters are already extremely busy dealing with fires that could so easily be prevented.

Please, don’t add to the pressure.

Through the powers of Facebook, we have returned him to his rightful owner!

Anyone who happened to be in Welland Park last night, may have seen our 2 fire appliances parked near the cafe.

No need to panic, there were no emergencies! Our On-Call crew were undertaking some vital obscured Breathing Apparatus training in the disused bowls club building.

Many thanks to Harborough District Council for allowing us access 😁

We're called a Fire and Rescue Service for a reason...

We've had a busy time rescuing all sorts of animals in the past few months, from cows 🐮 and horses 🐴 to fox cubs 🦊 , a chameleon and yes, the occasional cat 🐈 ... and now a monkey 🐵

Thankfully this cute fella has been reunited with their owner after going missing during Market Harborough's busy Open Day at the end of last month. We think it's likely he insisted on one last go on the toy zip line, but all's well that ends well and we have one happy owner and one happy monkey.
