📢 Markfield Post Office Update 📢

I know how much everyone is missing our local Post Office on Chitterman Way, and I want to share the latest update straight from the tenants.

I spoke with them yesterday, and like many of us, they are extremely frustrated by the ongoing insurance processes holding up the repairs. They are constantly pushing for the work to start and want the branch open just as much as the rest of the community does.

The Good News:

Once the insurance process finally clears and works commence, the physical repairs should only take around two weeks to complete!

The Current Situation:

The previous mid-August reopening target is no longer going to happen due to these insurance hurdles. For now, all we can do is wait and pray they get things moving soon so construction can begin.

Thank you for your continued patience and for supporting the tenants during this stressful time. I will share another update as soon as the builders are given the green light.

* Groby Post Office (Leicester Road)

📢 Broad Lane School Keep Clear Restrictions Now in Force

The new School Keep Clear and No Waiting at Any Time restrictions on Broad Lane are now in force.

I appreciate that this change may be frustrating for some parents who have traditionally parked in these locations for afternoon pick-up. However, these measures have been introduced for one simple reason: the safety of children, buses and other road users.

It's worth noting that the morning drop-off period generally works well because there are very few parked vehicles obstructing the road. The same principle can work at pick-up time.

Children finish classes at approximately 3:10pm, but it often takes several minutes for them to leave classrooms and reach the school gates. Parents arriving before this time should use the turning circle and queue in the same way as they do during the morning drop-off period.

I understand that any change takes time to adjust to, but I would ask everyone to be patient and work with the school and highway authority to make this a success. If the restrictions are ignored and the situation does not improve, there are unfortunately very limited options available moving forward.

Please remember that these measures are not about making life difficult for parents. They are about ensuring that every child can arrive and leave school safely.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. 🚸🚍✅

Please share, raise awareness and donate if you can. This is happening far to often, the Government needs to focus on more investment in diagnosing these young children earlier.

Consultation on the next draft of the Hinckley and Bosworth Local Plan is now under way.

The Proposed Submission Local Plan, known as a Regulation 19, is a key stage in Local Plan preparation and the final opportunity to comment before the Plan is submitted to the Secretary of State for examination by an independent Inspector.

The Regulation 19 Local Plan is out for consultation until 5pm on 21 September 2026.

The Local Plan will guide how the borough grows and changes over the coming years, including where homes, employment and community facilities should be located.

At this stage, comments should focus specifically on whether the Local Plan is sound (meaning it has been positively prepared, justified, effective and consistent with national policy) and legally compliant (meaning it has been produced in line with the legal and procedural requirements).

All comments received during the Regulation 19 Consultation will be submitted alongside the Local Plan to the Secretary of State later this year when the plan is submitted for examination.

Executive Member for Planning Cllr Bill Crooks said: “The Borough Council remains committed to delivering a clear and deliverable Local Plan that supports sustainable growth, provides new and enhanced infrastructure, and protects the borough’s environmental and heritage assets, along with so much more.

“I encourage all residents and local organisations to get involved as the Local Plan reaches this important stage. Our planning officers have organised drop-in events at venues across the borough to support this consultation. They look forward to seeing you there and hearing your views.”

For more information, including how to view the Local Plan and associated documents, and how to make comments, visit: www.hinckley-bosworth.gov.uk/2026reg19

Alternatively, you can contact the Planning Policy team on [email protected] or by calling the Council on 01455 238141.
