Huge congratulations to Buckinghamshire Conservative MP Joy Morrissey MP on her appointment to the Shadow Cabinet!

It is a huge privilege to have been asked by Kemi Badenoch to join the Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities.

I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to take on this role and to play my part in holding Labour to account on issues that matter to women, girls and families across the country.

As we prepare for the next Conservative government and our departure from the ECHR, it is vital that we have strong and coherent equality laws that work for the British people.

There is a lot of work to do, and I’m looking forward to getting started.

📚 Beacon Villages Community Library is back!

Just over a week after the ram raid and fire at Ivinghoe Town Hall, the library has reopened next door at St Mary’s Church. A huge thank you to the brilliant library volunteers and Library team who worked so quickly to make this happen, and to Revd James Grainger-Smith and the Churchwarden for welcoming the library into St Mary’s.

Within minutes of opening, residents were coming through the doors and it was already feeling like business as usual! Do make sure you pop down, the hours will be Tuesday 2pm to 4pm, Friday 2pm to 4pm and Saturday 10am to 1pm.

Students across Buckinghamshire collect their GCSE results

The wait is finally over for thousands of students across the county, as GCSE exam results are released today (Thursday 20 August).

Buckinghamshire Council congratulates students on their achievements and wishes them every success for their next steps into further education or training.

Students now have a variety of pathways open to them, including A-levels, T Levels, apprenticeships, vocational qualifications, further education courses and employment with training.

The council is reminding young people and their families that support is available for those who are uncertain about their next steps. Schools, colleges, careers advisers and local support services can provide guidance to help students make informed decisions about their future.

KEEPING ESKDALE AN AVENUE!!

As part of the £120 million that Buckinghamshire Council are investing in our highways network the pavements on Eskdale Avenue in Chesham are due to be resurfaced.

There is currently a consultation on options. The only option acceptable to local residents, highways cabinet member Thomas Broom and the Chesham Conservative group is that as many of the 15 trees on Eskdale Avenue as possible are retained!

The consultation has to take place because issues around accessibility were raised by a couple of residents with disabilities, hence the range of options. Officers and contractors, as usual, would like the easy but nuclear option of just removing the trees and resurfacing the pavement but that is NOT a good option.

The names of Councillor Steven Broadbent, Leader of the Council, Councillor Thomas Broom, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Transport, and Councillor Adekunle Osibogun, Cabinet Member for Environment, Climate Change & Waste are all on the officer report. That does not mean they have approved the report as falsely claimed by opposition members, it simply means they are the relevant cabinet members that will look at the results of the consultation and propose a way forward for a full cabinet decision. NONE OF THEM HAVE SIGNED OFF ON ANYTHING OR BELIEVE THAT ALL 15 TREES SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM ESKDALE AVENUE SO DON'T BELIEVE THE RUBBISH BEING SPOUTED BY POLITICIANS TRYING TO TURN THIS INTO A POLITICAL FOOTBALL.

Two Lib Dem Chesham Cllrs are also named in the report "Councillors Parveiz Aslam MBE and Alan Bacon have been consulted, and have expressed their support via
email response at this stage."

So two Lib Dem Chesham councillors have approved this nonsense about the need to remove trees. As ward cllrs they had a member briefing about what was coming down the line. Why didn't they stop this? Why didn't they fight to have the option of No Trees Removed added? That is their job and it wouldn't have happened under the previous Conservative administration in Chesham.

They have let the community down and haven't done their job properly by representing what's best for Chesham and its residents. Half decent Cllrs would have worked with officers to make them understand the importance of Keeping Eskdale An Avenue and would never have allowed a report like this to come forward in the first place or had the option of removing 15 trees included at all. They clearly don't have any influence at county hall, aren't stopping damaging ideas being put forward or stopping nonsense like this appearing in consultation documents prepared by officers. THEY ARE QUOTED AS ACTIVELY SUPPORTING THE REMOVAL OF TREES ON ESKDALE AVENUE!!!

Residents are running a fantastic awareness campaign and it's good to see the Lorax having a summer break in Chesham. We need every resident to respond to the consultation and say KEEP ESKDALE AN AVENUE. That's what Conservative Councillors, cabinet members and colleagues at County Hall are doing. They need evidence from residents to hammer the message home!!

A very engaging public meeting on the draft Local Plan was hosted by Cllr Carl Jackson, Cllr Simon Rouse and Cllr Martin Tett in the south of the county. There were residents present from all 6 villages in their ward - Chalfont St Giles, Little Chalfont, Seer Green Village, Jordans Village, Chenies and Coleshill.

It is important that local residents respond to the public consultation to support the Local Plan and how Bucks Council are dealing with an aggressive and inappropriate housing target of 91,000+ homes being imposed on our county by the Labour government. Lib Dem targets would increase that number by another 20,000.

A consultation on the draft Local Plan for Buckinghamshire is now live. Across the county your Conservative Councillors are working hard to engage with their communities, explain what the Local Plan means for their area, answer questions and encourage residents to respond to the consultation.

Cllrs Carl Jackson, Simon Rouse and Martin Tett will be holding a public meeting in Chalfont St Giles in early August, and Cllrs Julie Ward, Kathy Gibbon, Chris Poll and Peter Brazier are supporting their local action group in Wing & Bierton this evening at a similar event. Last weekend Cllr Phil Gomm met with residents in the village hall in Whitchurch and shared detailed plans with them, answered many questions and reassured them that the Neighbourhood Plan they have delivered for their village has been considered as part of the bigger county plan. A really thorough and engaging discussion.

Fantastic examples of your hard working Conservative Councillors working with their communities, representing their interests and putting in the hard graft.

A full day today with morning and afternoon sessions with one of our fabulous Buckinghamshire MPs, Mid Buckinghamshire's Greg Smith, as we shared his hard work on protecting our countryside and holding HS2 to account.

Meanwhile Labour forcing 91,000+ homes onto Bucks - the Lib Dems would add another 20,000 to that number. 😱 Working hard to show Bucks residents that it is the Conservatives protecting our county, saving the Green Belt, fighting for proper infrastructure funding and delivering a balanced budget as our central government funding is slashed by £45 million.

Labour have cancelled funding for our planned SEND school and continue to cause massive harm to the UK while their Lib Dem collaborators back them up on every detrimental vote.
