Eunice Newton Foote was one of the first scientists to recognise the significance of greenhouse gases in climate change. Sadly her work was largely ignored for over 100 years.

Yesterday was Earth Day (although I would argue that every day should be Earth Day), and with this in mind, it was with great interest that today I attended the Climate Action Marple Crisis Event, to improve awareness in our town.

It was great to see many people attend from our local community, although it would have been nice to see many more. In addition, it was noted that the age range was mainly below 18 or above 40 - there seemed a distinct lack of people in the middle age ranges.

But great work being carried out and a positive step forward to nurture our beautiful world. I came away with much food for thought and very encouraged to help the cause.

Although I didn't manage to catch a photograph myself, I was very excited to spot a Sea Otter this week near St Abbs Head.

Take part between the 27th - 29th January.

1. Watch the birds around you for one hour

2. Count how many of each species of bird lands on your patch

3. Go online and tell the RSPB what you saw.
