The PCC for Bedfordshire is asking residents to take part in a survey to help improve support services for victims of crime across the county.

The PCC is keen to hear from as many people as possible, whether they reported the incident to the police or chose not to. Responses will help identify what is working well, where improvements are needed and how agencies can better support victims throughout their journey.

The latest news from Central Bedfordshire Council:

Important update: Have your say on submitted sites in the new Local Plan

We’re inviting residents, local businesses and organisations to comment on sites that have been put forward for possible inclusion in the new Local Plan.

The new Local Plan will help shape how Central Bedfordshire grows up to 2050. It will set out how the area can meet future needs for homes, jobs and infrastructure, while creating and maintaining great places to live, protecting the countryside, green spaces, historic places and the character of local communities.

The Government requires councils to identify enough land for new homes, jobs and infrastructure to meet local need. Without an up-to-date Local Plan, development is more likely to happen in places we would consider less suitable, with less local control over where it goes.

Bedfordshire councils secure government backing for new fostering hub

New fostering hub to help recruit, approve and support more foster carers across the area.

Central Bedfordshire Council, Luton Council and Bedford Borough Council have secured government support to develop a new fostering hub to help recruit, approve and support more foster carers across the area.

Foster East - Bedfordshire and Luton will provide a more joined-up and consistent approach to fostering across the three council areas.

The hub will support people from their first enquiry about fostering, through assessment, approval, training and ongoing support. This end-to-end approach is designed to make the process clearer for prospective foster carers, improve retention and help ensure foster carers feel supported throughout their fostering journey.

The new hub is part of the government’s national ambition to create 10,000 additional foster places by April 2029, helping to make sure there is a fostering placement available for every child who needs one.

The latest news from Central Bedfordshire Council

We plan to strengthen SEND support in Central Bedfordshire

Our Executive has backed plans to improve support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), with a greater focus on early help and inclusion in mainstream education.

The Local SEND Reform Plan brings together our existing improvement work with schools, health services, families and other partners into one programme designed to provide children with the right support at the right time.

At the heart of the plan is a proposed Experts at Hand model, which will give schools and education settings more coordinated access to specialist professionals.

This will include educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, mental health practitioners, SEND advisory teachers and parent navigators.

These professionals will work more closely with schools to identify emerging needs, provide specialist advice and help put support in place before difficulties escalate.
