Did you know...
The question of a war memorial was considered in April 1918 and finally resulted in, between 1920 and 1923, the building of an obelisk on the spur of Ham Hill at a cost of over £400 and was built by the people of Stoke-under-Ham.

The monument, which is a significant landmark, was unveiled by H.R.H. Edward, Prince of Wales (Duke of Cornwall and Lord of the Manor of Stoke) on 19 July 1923.

Another unveiling ceremony on 3rd August 1947, of a plaque on the monument to commemorate those who died in World War II

More recently, the name of a soldier who died on active service in Northern Ireland in August 1988 has been added to the memorial.
