Dogs

On a day that has been recorded as the hottest June day ever, reaching 36.4°C in Yeovilton, we were returning from a shout when we saw three people walking their dogs.

We decided to use our thermal imaging camera to show exactly how hot the ground was.

We recorded a ground temperature of up to 56°C.

Please think of your dogs before taking them out for a walk this evening. Roads and pavements will retain a lot of heat well into the evening, and temperatures at ground level can be much higher than the air temperature.

If the pavement feels too hot for the back of your hand, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws. 🐾

Happy Fathers Day from all of us Station 80.

We hope you all have a brilliant day celebrating with your families.

An early start for some of our Fathers as we were mobilised at 07.58 to a Large vehicle fire on the A303, on arrival Martock crews were met with the cab of an articulated lorry well alight.

Crews extinguished the fire using 2×BA (breathing apparatus) and 1xHRJ (Hosereel jet) preventing any fire spread to the trailer unit.

There were no injuries and crews returned to station at 09.45.

Thank you to everyone who came and supported us today at our charity car wash.

A fantastic day raising over £700 for the Firefighters Charity on the hottest day of the year so far.

On top of washing cars for 6 hrs crews have also been mobilised to 3 separate incidents today, one unfortunately an hour into the car wash, that's 4 call outs in the past 24hrs for our crews so a very busy time🚒.
