Kent Day is officially celebrated on May 26th, the traditional feast day of St. Augustine, the first Archbishop of Canterbury. It is a day to celebrate the culture, history, and heritage of the historic county, famously known as the "Garden of England".
The flag of Kent (often called the Invicta flag) features a rearing white horse on a red background to represent Horsa, the legendary 5th-century Jutish leader who, alongside his brother Hengest, is said to have founded the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Kent.
The specific design of the White Horse of Kent was first officially recorded in history in 1605 by Richard Verstegan in his book Restitution of Decayed Antiquities

📣 Have your say on the future of local schooling 📣
The Support Weald Schooling (SWS) group is inviting the community to help shape a proposal that will be submitted to the Department for Education.
To show that this is a genuine community led need, SWS has created a short survey where you can select up to three reasons explaining how a new school would benefit our community. There’s also an “other” option if you’d like to share a different view.
The survey is being shared with residents, businesses, and organisations across 13 local parishes within our notional catchment area, and it takes just a few seconds to complete.

Be heard, collaborate, and share ideas—make meetings and classes more engaging with real conversations.

Kent County Council is reminding residents that small recycling changes can make a big difference this spring.
Councils will be aware that from 31 March 2026, liquid cartons (such as milk and juice cartons) can now be recycled in
household dry recycling, alongside glass, metal and plastic.
Please remember to recycle items empty, rinsed and loose, and keep plastic bags and soft plastics out of recycling bins.
Batteries, electrical items, food waste and textiles should also not be included.

Want to reduce, reuse and recycle your household waste? Check to see if you're doing all you can.
