This week, Foster for East Midlands Councils is proud to support Children of Foster Carers' Week (12 to 18 Oct), celebrating the incredible children and young people who play such an important role in fostering families.

By sharing their homes, time and kindness, children of foster carers help children in care feel welcome, safe, valued and part of the family. Their support and understanding make a real difference every day.

Throughout the week, we'll be sharing messages of support and celebrating the vital contribution children of foster carers make to helping children and young people feel safe, welcomed and valued.

Could you become a specialist foster carer?

This role is often suited to people with experience supporting children or young people, whether in education, residential care, healthcare, or youth work.

You’ll also need:
✔ A spare bedroom
✔ Time and flexibility (often full-time availability)
✔ The ability to work alongside professionals
✔ Patience, resilience, and empathy

You don’t need to have all the answers, but you do need the commitment to support a young person through challenges and change.

🖤 Celebrating Black foster carers this Black History Month 🖤

This Black History Month, we recognise and celebrating the incredible contribution Black foster carers make across our communities.

By supporting local children and young people, helping them stay connected to their culture, heritage and identity, Black foster carers play a vital role in helping children feel valued, understood and proud of who they are.

We know representation matters, and we're committed to finding more foster carers from Black communities so that more children can grow up in homes where their culture and lived experiences are recognised and celebrated.
