🛍️Calling all bargain hunters! A new reuse shop has opened our household waste recycling centre at Waterswallows near Buxton.

From furniture and homeware to garden equipment, books, CDs and vinyl, there’s a host of pre-loved items ready for a new home – so why not pop along to the centre on Waterswallows Road and bag yourself a deal.

✅Stocked with items collected at the site
✅All goods are checked to ensure products are high quality
✅Open 9am to 4pm every Wednesday to Sunday
✅Purchases by card or other electronic payments only
✅Proceeds from sales will go towards running costs of the shop and any profits will go to local charitable causes.

The shop has been set up and will be operated in partnership with SUEZ UK which operates the recycling centre on our behalf.

🚨 The A516 Mickleover interchange junction with Kensey Road and Etwall road will be closed tonight following a significant spillage of organic material.

Travel Smart Week is under way, with 296 primary schools across Derbyshire taking part.

This year’s theme, The Art of Travel Smart, is helping children explore active and sustainable journeys through art and creativity.

Parents and carers can join in by swapping car journeys for walking, wheeling, cycling, scooting, using the bus, car sharing or Park and Stride where possible.

You can also share your child’s Travel Smart artwork with Travel Smart Derbyshire using .

⭐ Talented young swimmers showed off their incredible skills and determination while competing at the Derbyshire Amateur Swimming Association 2026/27 County Youth and Age Group Swimming Championships at the weekend.

Our Council Leader Councillor Alan Graves was invited by Derbyshire ASA’s President Ralph Shepherd to watch competitors from across Derbyshire take to the pool for the championships at Moorways Sports Village and Water Park.

👏 Cllr Graves praised the hard work and dedication of the athletes, coaches, families and volunteers involved in the event.

He said it had been inspirational to watch, sending congratulations to all those who took part and wishing the best of luck to all for the rest of the championships.

This year's National Adoption Week is particularly significant, marking 100 years since adoption became a formal legal process, giving adoptive parents the legal status and rights of parents. Over the last century, adoption has continued to evolve, with a greater focus on meeting the needs of children and ensuring families receive the support they need.

This year, we recognise the everyday moments help children feel safe, loved and that they belong.

With Adoption East Midlands, support doesn't stop when you're approved or when a child moves in. From your first enquiry, we're here to support you every step throughout your adoption journey.

We’ll provide preparation, guidance and support to help you understand the needs of adopted children. Ongoing support is available with advice, services and resources tailored to individual needs. We’re also building an adoption community through our very own Peers4Peers service, ran by adopters for adopters!

Adoption is about more than a single moment. It's about being there every day and having the right support when you need it most.
