Our newly appointed Cabinet Member for Children & Families Councillor Paul Maginnis has spent a career supporting young people into employment.

🫶 He recently visited our leaving care team in Ilkeston to see for himself the work they do to support young people as they move on to the next stage of their lives, including training and employment.

➡️ More than 40% of care leavers are not in education, employment or training nationally and we're determined to buck the trend in Derbyshire.

🤝 Paul looks forward to supporting the team in developing more opportunities for care leavers, from council apprenticeships to employer engagement, to ensure we have a positive plan to support our young people.

A new programme to improve how children, young people and families are supported is being introduced across Derbyshire through the Families First Partnership (FFP).

The programme will help families get support earlier, making it clearer what help is available and where to go, while bringing services together so families do not have to repeat their story.

It is aimed at families who may be finding things difficult at times, including those with children and young people with SEND, helping them get the support they need to grow and thrive.

We’re inviting parents and carers to join relaxed engagement sessions to share their views and help shape future support for families.

Find out more about the sessions and register to attend at https://ow.ly/xSmS50Z7aob
