🚨 Big Changes for Councillor Conduct!

The Government is introducing major reforms to strengthen the rules for local councillors. A mandatory Code of Conduct will apply to all councils, ensuring fair and consistent standards across the country.

Councillors who breach the rules can now face suspension or removal, while complainants will receive better support throughout the process. A national appeals body will also be created to make sure decisions are fair and consistent.

These changes are the biggest shake-up of the system in over a decade and are designed to increase accountability, fairness, and public trust in local government.

📢 Have Your Say: Should Parish & Town Councils Take on New Services?

On Monday 15th September, DALC attended the Derbyshire Parish Liaison Forum at Derbyshire County Council. This is a great opportunity for Councils across Derbyshire to network, meet key service heads, and get the latest updates on changes affecting local communities.

A key question we asked was: “Should Parish & Town Councils take on new assets or services, even if it means increasing the precept?”

An impressive 77% of attendees said yes, but we want to hear from those Councils who couldn’t attend. Both Clerks and Councillors are invited to share their views and help shape the discussion.
