You can get rid of your garden waste without a controlled burn. Most garden waste, like grass cuttings and leaves, can be recycled by composting. Visit your local Council website for further information.

Thank You to all our followers.

After another busy night, we just wanted to take a moment to say a massive thank you to everyone who follows and supports our fire station page.

Last night saw us attending another farm fire this time in Hilton, followed by a period of standby. With the exceptionally dry weather we’ve experienced, it has certainly been an unprecedented year for incidents, and one that we’ll remember for many years to come.

A special thank you also goes to our wives, partners and families. Your patience, understanding and support when the pager goes off — often at the most inconvenient times — means a great deal to all of us and that support enables us to continue to keep our response area safe

And to everyone who likes, comments, shares our posts and supports the work we do: thank you. It’s genuinely appreciated.

Please continue to take care in these exceptionally dry conditions. 🔥🚒

From all of us at Melbourne Fire Station — thank you for your continued support.

Here’s our year so far in photos.

🚒 Farm building fire – Sutton Lane, Hilton

At 02:16 this morning, crews were called to a farm off Sutton Lane, Hilton, where a farm outbuilding was well alight.

A total of 10 pumping appliances were mobilised to the incident. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus (BA) worked to tackle the fire and successfully extinguished it.

A significant response was required to bring the incident under control due to water, with crews working through the early hours to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and the area made safe.

On return to home station due to a fire in Normanton we were diverted to Standby at Ascot Drive fire station.

Well done to all crews involved. 👨‍🚒🚒

Today @ 18:01 we were mobilised to standby at Ascot Drive fire station. This was while they attended another incident. While on route we were then mobilised to the report of a garden fire in Normanton. This turned out to be a controlled burn. We extinguished the fire using a Hose reel Jet and advised the responsible person to not have fires in the current climate and to dispose of rubbish alternately either using the recycling bin or visit to the rubbish tip, we then returned to Standby.

After a few incidents and a night without sleep, we attended station for post incident cleaning and servicing our Main line hose and completed after use checks.

It wasn’t long before we were turned out to stand by at Ascot drive to proved fire cover.

While on stand by at Ascot drive we attended
🚒 @ 2054 Smell of burning at a house on Balfour Road. 🚒 @ 2138 Reports of fires being set on Normington Road.

On return to station and after 20 minutes of paperwork from attended jobs we were again alerted to a report of a fire in Willington on Twyford Road.

This turned out to be a camp fire. Although well looked after the responsible person agreed that it would be best extinguished due to the current conditions.

It’s now 01:00 and finally time to catch up on lost sleep. 🧟‍♂️
