SBC Outdoor Education Department Outdoor Education Service for Scottish Borders Council. Bikeability, Duke of Edinburgh, Teacher Training

Scottish Borders Council Outdoor Education Department run a variety of activities and courses both in and out of schools for young people, teaching staff, volunteers. We operate the Duke of Edinburgh scheme throughout the region, managing and supporting over 300 pupils a year as they progress through the award at each of the 9 secondary schools. Outdoor Education staff are involved in the training

, delivery and assessment of the expedition section. Mountain Biking and cycling road safety training are delivered through mountain bike clubs and the Bikeability scheme, with Outdoor Education staff delivering sessions directly as well as providing training and mentoring opportunities for teachers, parents and other volunteers.

Thanks to Acces to Bikes funding from Cycling Scotland we're enabling young people to access cycling for fun, leisure, and local active travel. Every P6 pupil across the Scottish Borders received Bikeability Scotland cycle safety training in the past academic year, and we're on track to repeat this success in the current year.

Great little news piece on the Bikeability programme from Cycling Scotland, with good news from ourselves - we achieved 100% delivery last year, working across all primary schools with P6 cohorts :)

Figures, collated by Cycling Scotland, reveal that in the 2022-23 session, more than 60,000 children took part in Bikeability Scotland training. This is in
