✨ Bradgate Flats Improvement Programme ✨

We're excited to announce that refurbishment works to the communal areas at Bradgate Flats are planned for this financial year.

As part of the programme, we'll be:

🎨 Refreshing communal areas with redecoration
🧹 Replacing worn carpets
🔨 Carrying out external repairs and improvements

Your feedback matters to us, and we’ll continue to work with tenants throughout the refurbishment to understand which improvements are considered to be a priority.

⚠️ A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain has been issued, with potential flooding possible in some areas.

Please take a moment to read the post below for advice on how to stay safe and be prepared. ⬇️

A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain has been issued for Wednesday and Thursday (26 and 27 August) – along with a warning of possible flooding.

The risk of localised flooding is higher because of months of hot, dry weather which has left the ground extremely dry.

This week’s wet weather may lead to difficult driving conditions, disruption to power and other utilities, and a possible risk to life from fast-flowing flood water.

To help prepare for the risk of flooding:
✅ Know your flood risk and sign up for free flood alerts and warnings
✅ Pack a ‘grab bag’ of essential items, like medicines, bottled water and insurance documents, in case you need to stay put or leave your home in a hurry
✅ Check in on relatives and neighbours, particularly those who may find it harder to cope
✅ Check gutters, drains and downpipes, and clear leaves and debris
✅ Have an emergency plan and keep it handy – include things like emergency phone numbers
✅ Check out property flood resilience measures
✅ Find local flood resilience activities, such as your local flood warden scheme
✅ Never enter flood water, either on foot or in a vehicle. In an emergency, call 999

Melton Borough Council tenants and leaseholders!

We are creating a new Neighbourhood Management Policy and we want to hear from you.

We want our council housing neighbourhoods to be safe, clean and welcoming places to live. The new policy will help shape how we manage neighbourhood services across the borough, including:

🧹 Clean and well-maintained neighbourhoods
🛡️ Community safety and anti-social behaviour
🗣️ Tenant involvement and engagement
⚖️ Fairness and accessibility

Tell us what's working well, what could be improved, and what matters most to you.

Your feedback will help us decide where to focus our efforts and improve neighbourhood services over the next five years, helping to create communities that are well maintained, safe, and places people are proud to call home.

Did you know that food, grease and tape can stop cardboard from being recycled? ♻️ Take a look at the post below for some handy recycling tips.👇

Did you know? Food, grease and tape on cardboard can prevent it from being recycled properly. ♻️

Top tips for recycling cardboard:
• Remove any contents (such as polystyrene, plastics and bubble wrap)
• Remove tape and sticky labels
• Flatten boxes to save space in your bin
• Keep it clean and dry – food, grease and chemicals are all contaminants and will stop the cardboard from being recycled.

What about pizza boxes?
Cardboard contaminated with food or grease can't be recycled. If you can't tear off the clean section, place the whole box in your black bin.

If part of the box is clean, tear it in half and recycle the clean section while putting the greasy section in your black bin.

Got a large cardboard box?
Try cutting the box up into smaller pieces.

Alternatively, you can leave large boxes by the side of your wheelie bin. Make sure you follow the steps above first, removing any tape and flattening the boxes for collection.

Please check out Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service post about how to prevent further wild fires, as the weather continues to remain dry.👇

For the first time in a while, our area is not covered by a Health Security Agency heat health alert - but conditions still remain warm, dry and susceptible to wildfires.

Our advice, and that of the UK government, remains: do not use disposable barbecues, do not start bonfires, campfires or fireworks, and be extra careful with anything that could spark a larger fire. This guidance will remain in place until the weather gets cooler and wetter.

Please be aware that you should only call 999 in an actual emergency , i.e. when there is a real, imminent threat to life and property. If you want to report something you see as a potential hazard please contact your local authority, or our Fire Protection team via this link: https://orlo.uk/bIdfL
