today the new sail wood arrived to replace the defective sail plus a spare length to put in store

thankfully the mill has got through the last few days in the main we missed the snow and strong winds which is a relief ,,, on the new sail front the timber to replace the failed sail should arrive on 26 jan so when the better weather comes we will cut it to shape and start building a new sail to go later this year

slowly recovering from all the stress of the fan work ,,so far its working fine , which is a great relief ,, on the new sail front i have paid a deposit for the new timber back and the wood yard thinks they have located a suitable length to do the job ,, which will probably be delivered in jan ,,,, recently had a day of help by Ross spab trainee who replaced a rotten window sill ,,, on the flour front we now have an `exemption from adding artificial folic acid and also now we have a legal exemption from adding chalk and artificial iron ,,, the flour will contain nothing but organic wheat from an inspected farm

hAVE NOW REPLACED THE WORN FAN BEVEL GEARS THIS MENT LIFTING THE WHOLE FAN OFF ,, HAD A FEW PROBLEMS ONE OF THE BEVELS TOOK A WHOLE DAY TO GET OFF THE SHAFT ALSO HAD A DELAY WHEN MORE MACHINING WAS NEEDED ,,BUT IT IS ALL BACK NOW AND SO FAR IT IS WORKING OK ,, I HOPE

THE FAN WORK HAS NOW BEEN COMPLETED THE WHOLE FAN HAD TO BE LIFTED DOWN SO THAT THE WORN BEVEL GEARS COULD BE REPLACED,,IT HAD ITS PROBLEMS GETTING THE BIG BEVEL OFF THE SHAFT SO IT COULD BE REPLACED AND ALSO EXTRA MACHINING WAS NEEDED ,, SO FAR THE THE NEW GEARS ARE WORKING OK

THE FAN WORK HAS ALSO NOW BEEN COMPLETED.. THIS INVOLVED LIFTING THE WHOLE FAN OFF SO THE BEVEL GEARS COULD BE REPLACED ,,REMOVING THE BIG BEVEL PROVED DIFFICULT AS IT TOOK ALL DAY TO GET IT OFF THE SHAFT,, ALSO HAD TO SEND IT BACK FOR MORE MACHINING ,,, HOWEVER IT IS ALL NOW BACK IN PLACE AND SO FAR IS WORKING WELL

up and down week ! wed was a bit of a disaster as the brakes failed on van had a ride home with AA ... ENGINE STONE PLAYED UP FRI BELT KEPT COMING OFF SO TRIED ADJUSTING TENSION BUT THAT DID NOT SEEM TO SOLVE PROBLEM ,, I NOTICED THE FLOUR COMING OFF STONE SEEMED A BIT WARM THEN I NOTICED FLOUR SEEMED TO BE LEAKING OUT OF THE STONE CASING ,,, EVENTUALLY I REALISED A BLOCKAGE HAD DEVELOPED BETWEEN THE STONE AND THE STONE CASING WHICH PREVENTED THE FLOUR REACHING THE EXIT SHUTE SO IT WAS CHOKING ITSELF,, CLEARED IT AND STONE WORKED PERFECTLY ,, TODAY RAN THE SAILS AND FOR ONCE THE MILL WORKED WITH NO PROBLEMS ,,IT WAS A NICE STEADY SW ,, REMINDS ME WHY I KEEP IT GOING

working up to replacing the top fan gears that have caused problems pity i could no have done it this few weeks with the flat calm weather but i was not ready ,, but thats life with a windmill!!
