Mel's cottage

Mel's cottage 4 Sunnyside is a 160 year old miners' cottage in the Cornish village of Menheniot. Available for holiday lets. Sleeps upto 4 (1 double room, 1 twin).

Open from Friday 17 July until Friday 30 October this year (2015)

£250 per week sleeping upto 2 people, £280 sleeping 3-4 people. No hike in prices over the school holidays! Change over days are Fridays to arrive 5pm or after and vacate by 11am the following Friday. Towels and bed linen are provided (if you wish to bring your own, please say). The cottage hopes to give LR and OU colleagues and o

ther FB friends the opportunity to enjoy a break in the West Country at a reasonable price. Menheniot is in South East Cornwall 6 miles from the coast at Looe and 12 miles from the pretty port of Polperro. It is within easy distance of several beaches, Dartmoor National Park, Bodmin Moor, The Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan and National Trust houses of Cotehele, Antony, Lanhydrock, and Francis Drake's home at Buckland Abbey. The City of Plymouth, with its shops, The Barbican and The Hoe on the seafront is within 30 minutes drive. The Monkey Sanctuary - a must - is just 4 miles away. For golfers, St Mellion is 20 minutes drive away.

And so it comes to pass that even little bears must hang up their boots and cash in their 'gold plated' civil service pensions. Mel's Cottage is now under new management.

I think you will agree they have worked tirelessly to ensure your stay at the cottage is comfortable and more than deserve this year's CPA - a crate of Doombar, a vat of clotted cream and a year's supply of pasties.

They have loved seeing you enjoy your holidays and following your adventures, and hope that if ever you are in the vicinity you will meet them for a pint and a pasty/cream tea/chip supper.

Roche Rock

The chapel on the Roche Rock is said to have been built by a hermit as a cell. The identity of the hermit is not certain but some say he was a shunned l***r from the Tregarnick family, whose daughter, St Gundred, tended to him. The chapel was built in 1409 and is dedicated to St Michael.

Roche Rock has many folklore tales associated with it, the two most famous being the legend of wicked Jan Tregeagle, and the lovers Tristan and Iseult.

A holy well or sacred spring is a place of water revered either in a Christian or pagan context, sometimes both. Often associated with healing properties.

Saint Keyne was a 5th-century holy woman and hermitess who said to have travelled widely through what is now South Wales and Cornwall.
