Southdown Shaw Allotments
UPDATE ON ALLOTMENT MANAGEMENT

Clarification
Meopham Parish Council (MPC) is aware that some plot holders may have received differing or unclear information regarding the future management of the allotments. We wish to clarify that the fixed term lease ends on 31 March 2026 and will not be renewed. Management of the site will therefore return to MPC.

All existing plot holder agreements will continue automatically until MPC issues new tenancy agreements.

If you have any concerns or require up to date and accurate information, please contact Meopham Parish Council directly.

Frequently Raised Queries
Non-residents - We reassure all plot holders that residents of Gravesham remain eligible to hold plots. When new tenancy agreements are issued, proof of residency will be required.

Existing breaches - MPC is aware that some plot holders may have inherited breaches from previous tenants. We will work with affected plot holders to resolve these issues and bring plots back into compliance with the tenancy agreement.

Enforcement of breaches - Going forward, MPC will be enforcing breaches where necessary and will require plot holders to take remedial action.

Rent increases - A general rent increase is not currently anticipated. However, due to rising utility costs and the absence of detailed information on the existing water supply charges via the MDAA, an additional water fee cannot be ruled out in the future.

Selling the land - MPC is not considering selling the allotment land for property development. As consultees, MPC has recently reviewed several large-scale development proposals and has objected to each on a case by case basis.

UPDATE: Allotment Data & Management
MPC has now received the allotment records from the MDAA.
✅ The ICO has confirmed that the transfer of this information is lawful, as the Council owns the land and is resuming direct management.
✅ MPC holds and uses this information to manage the site, administer tenancies, and meet its legal responsibilities.
The MDAA has indicated that some records may be inaccurate. MPC has asked them for clarification so the information can be updated as needed.
Recent communications have suggested a data breach occurred. For clarity, the ICO had already confirmed to the MDAA Lettings Officer that the data transfer was lawful.
