Temperatures are set to stay high this week, so it's important to take a few extra steps to stay safe in the heat. ☀️

🕒 Seek shade between 11am and 3pm
🧴 Wear SPF 30+ sunscreen
🧢 Cover up with a hat, sunglasses and loose clothing
💧 Drink plenty of water
🌊 Avoid jumping into open water to cool off - remember to enter the water slowly to reduce the risk of cold-water shock.

Gall babis/plant foddi mewn cyn lleied â 5cm (2 fodfedd) o ddŵr. Boddi yw un o’r achosion mwyaf cyffredin o farwolaeth i blant – a hynny’n dawel yn aml, felly fyddwch chi ddim o anghenraid yn clywed unrhyw sŵn na straffaglu.

Dyma rai tips pwysig i gadw’r plant yn ddiogel o gwmpas y pwll.

🔴 Peidiwch byth â gadael babi neu blentyn bach mewn pwll p***o hyd yn oed am eiliadau. Dim ond eiliad mae’n ei gymryd iddynt lithro o dan y dŵr – sy’n gallu bod yn farwol. Gall plant foddi yn y dyfnder lleiaf o ddŵr.
🔴 Os oes angen i chi eu gadael i gasglu rhywbeth, neu ateb y drws ffrynt neu’r ffȏn, cymerwch y plentyn allan o’r pwll tra bo chi i ffwrdd. Gwnewch hi’n glir nad yw’r plentyn yn cael mynd i mewn i’r pwll heb eich bod chi yno. Cymerwch blant bach na fyddai’n deall, efallai, neu nad yw’n gallu dilyn cyfarwyddiadau, gyda chi, cadwch y plant i ffwrdd o’r ardd pan fyddwch yn absennol.
🔴 Gwiriwch dymheredd y dŵr i wneud yn siŵr nad yw’n rhy oer (os ydych newydd lenwi’r pwll) nac yn rhy boeth os yw ar ddiwedd y dydd. Gall y dŵr fynd yn boeth iawn os yw’n heulog iawn.
🔴 Gall y glaswellt sydd o gwmpas pwll p***o fynd yn wlyb ac yn llithrig iawn felly byddwch yn ymwybodol o’r posibilrwydd o ddamweiniau pan fydd y plant yn dringo allan.
🔴 Mae’n hanfodol defnyddio hufen haul yn yr haf felly rhowch ddigon ar y plant hyd yn oed pan fyddan nhw’n chwarae yn y pwll p***o. Rhowch ddillad llac arnyn nhw (crys-T a throwsus ysgafn neu legins) os oes yna lawer o haul.
🔴 Gwnewch yn siŵr fod y plant yn ymwybodol fod llawr y pwll yn llithrig iawn. Awgrymwch eu bod yn penlinio yn hytrach na sefyll os ydyn nhw’n ansicr ar eu traed.
🔴 Gwnewch yn siŵr bod y plant yn cerdded ac nid rhedeg o gwmpas y pwll fel nad ydyn nhw’n llithro a chwympo i mewn yn ddamweiniol.
🔴 Cymerwch yr holl deganau allan ar ddiwedd y dydd fel nad oes neb yn cael ei demtio i estyn mewn a chael rhywbeth o’r pwll a syrthio i mewn yn ddamweiniol.
🔴 Cadwch lygad ar y dyfnder. Ar ôl iddi lawio gall fod yn fwy llawn na’r tro diwethaf yr edrychoch chi.

Paddling Pool Safety ‼️

Babies / children can drown in as little as 5cm (2 inches) of water. Drowning is one of the commonest causes of child death – it's often silent, so you won't necessarily hear any noise or struggle.

Here are a few important tips to keep the children safe in and around the pool.

🔴 Never leave a baby toddler or child in a paddling pool even for the shortest time. It takes a moment for them to slip under the water which can be fatal. Children can drown in the smallest depth of water.
🔴 If you need to leave them to get something, or to answer the front door or the phone, take them out of the pool while you are away. Make it clear they are not allowed to get into the pool without you there. Take small children who may not understand or be able to follow instructions with you, keep them out of the garden while you are absent.
🔴 Check the temperature of the water to make sure it is not too cold (if you've just filled it) or too warm if it's the end of a hot day. With enough sun, the water can get very warm.
🔴 The grass may get wet and slippery around a paddling pool so be aware of the potential for accidents when the children climb out.
🔴 Suncream is essential in the summer so keep the children covered up even when playing in the paddling pool. Keep them in loose clothes (T-shirt and light trousers or leggings) if there is a lot of sun.
🔴 Make sure the children are aware that inside the pool is very slippery. Suggest they kneel rather than stand if unsteady on their feet.
🔴 Make sure the children walk and don't run round the pool so they don't trip and accidentally fall in.
🔴 Remove all toys at the end of the day so no one is tempted to reach in and get something from the pool and accidentally fall in.
🔴 Keep an eye on the dept. After rainfall it could be more full than when you last looked.

🌞🚿 Did you know that a hose pipe left in the sun can cause serious burns when the water is sprayed out?

When a hose sits in direct sunlight, the water inside can heat up to dangerous temperatures.

To help prevent accidents:

🔥 Always run the hose for a few seconds and check the water temperature before spraying anyone — especially children.

Self-feeding pillows can be deadly. That’s because the baby can’t push the bottle away, so can choke or suffer aspiration pneumonia.

Your baby needs you with them while they are feeding, so you can react if they start gagging or choking.

An urgent safety alert was issued for baby self-feeding pillows in 2022. But you can still buy them online.

Please avoid using anything that encourages you to leave your baby alone to feed with a propped-up bottle. And warn family and friends too.
