Aberfan 💔

Today we will remember the 144 who lost their lives in 1966 including the 116 children who went to school for what should have been another normal school day. Our hearts are with the friends, families, and community whose lives also changed forever on that day. Sixty years on and the whole community stands with you in your grief and to ensure the lives of those who were lost that day are never forgotten.

On this day in 1966, 60 years later the heart still aches for the small Welsh village of Aberfan was struck by an unthinkable tragedy. 144 lives were lost 116 of them children when a coal tip collapsed onto their school.
It’s a story that broke Wales’ heart, and one that still brings tears generations later. But it’s also a story of love, unity, and resilience a reminder of how our nation stands together in times of sorrow.
Today, we remember them. Always.

Our transport continues to support people as they go through diagnosis and treatments. We go to hospitals throughout South Wales including Neville Hall, Morriston, Royal Glamorgan, University Hospital of Wales, Llandough and Velindre.

We are looking for reliable, caring drivers to join our incredible team of volunteers to support the transport service.

Today we held our first autumn wreath make and create workshop. A calm, mindful group activity session which started with a blank canvas and ended with the most beautiful autumnal wreaths.
Guided by the incredibly talented Julia Jenkins from Queens florist, everyone left so proud of what they had created. A morning of getting creative, trying new experiences and ending the session feeling proud of the door wreath they got to take home!

These groups can not take away the heartbreak and challenges of living with a cancer diagnosis but they can provide a little relief, connection with others going through something similar, and give people a reason to feel connected and try new experiences that bring joy and help people learn new skills.

Today we welcomed operations manager Louise, and team leader Gemma from EE to the centre to see our facilities and meet the team.

They very kindly made an incredible donation of £1344.00 which was raised in their charity Golf day on the 30th September which held in Mountain Ash Golf club!

Thank you to everyone who supported the day, from the organisers, volunteers who helped out on the day and of course the golfers who took to the course for a great cause.

What an inspiration!

Earlier this year Beth set out with an idea - bring to life Merthyr's first ever breast fest event. An afternoon of fun and friendship with some incredible bands and artists. From an idea to reality, the event has become bigger, better and so in demand that tickets sold out almost instantly with many waiting for tickets and needing a bigger venue.

Beth has had the most incredible support from local businesses who have sponsored the event, given donations, are giving raffle prizes or their time to support it!

Merthyr Mum Sells Out Massive Charity Event In 30 Minutes After Two Year Cancer Battle 💖🙌🏻

A Merthyr Tydfil mother who was diagnosed with breast cancer when her youngest child was just 10 months old has sold out a massive charity event in record time.

Beth Louise received her devastating diagnosis in November 2024. At the time, her thoughts instantly turned to her daughters, eight-year-old Fallon and baby Robyn, knowing she simply had to fight to remain their mum.

Over the past two years, Beth has endured five surgeries, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, sepsis, and countless hospital treatments.

Rather than letting the illness defeat her, she is turning a negative into a positive by sharing her story to give others strength and awareness.

To mark exactly two years since her diagnosis, Beth organised Breast Fest, a major charity event taking place in Merthyr on the 14th of November.

The initial allocation of 220 tickets sold out in just half an hour, creating such huge demand that she is now looking for a bigger venue to accommodate the incredible support.

All funds raised from the night will go to Merthyr Cancer Aid, a charity that provided crucial help during her treatment, alongside a special donation to A Fight For Rylee.

Beth, whose incredible journey has previously featured on ITV Wales and Wales Online, is using Breast Cancer Awareness Month to share a vital message. She is urging everyone to check themselves, know their normal, and never assume it will not happen to them.

As Beth bravely states, cancer does not care how old you are, that you are a mother, or that you are too busy to be ill. If something does not feel right, do not wait to get it checked.

Support groups and events this week are:
Tuesday 6th October - Connections cafe support group All Saints Church hall 10.am
Wednesday 7th October - Welsh Water will be here helping with bills - our last session patients saved ££ off their water bills, no forms to fill in. Catherine will talk you through the options available.

Polite notice - all our clinics are fully booked - if you can not attend any pre booked appointments please cancel with at least 24 hours notice. This stops an appointment being wasted and enables us to offer the appointment to someone else who is waiting to be seen.

Next week we have our first Valley steps workshop on Monday 12th October 10.00am - this weeks focus will be on loneliness. Everyone is welcome - booking essential. Please call us on 01685379633.
