Claydon House - NT You'll love Claydon if you enjoy a period drama (many were filmed here) and great architecture. Seat of the Verney family for over 400 years. Visit soon.

Historic house and garden in the Buckingham, Milton Keynes and Aylesbury area. Claydon House is an unexpected jewel tucked away in the heart of Buckinghamshire countryside. With its graceful appearance, peaceful setting and extraordinary Rococo interiors, it is a rich treasure trove with a fascinating history just waiting to be explored.

* Georgian country house, decorated in fine Chinoise and rococo style
* Intricate wood-carvings and a spectacular parquetry staircase
* Lovely elevated setting in unspoilt countryside
* Mementoes of Florence Nightingale who was once a regular visitor
* Fascinating associations with the Civil War and the Crimean War

Ours is the story of one family, The Verneys, who have owned the estates at Claydon since the 1460’s. Within the confines of a remarkable eighteenth century folly one can venture back and forth in time and engage in the remarkable story of one families fluctuating fortunes. The Verney family and the National Trust are delighted to share this remarkable place with you. The National Trust is a registered charity no 205846

Something magical is coming to Claydon this winter.

At the heart of House of Bells is the joy of sound — the chime, resonance and festive storytelling power of bells. This is a Christmas experience you don’t just watch; you join in. Families can ring beautifully crafted handbells, explore different tones and feel how sound transforms Claydon’s historic rooms as gentle bell‑echoes guide you through the House.

Along the way, you’ll uncover the rich history of bells in celebration, ceremony and community life. Hands‑on displays and interactive moments reveal how bells have marked time, signalled gatherings and brought people together across centuries.

From learning how bells were cast to discovering their winter symbolism — or simply enjoying the thrill of ringing one yourself — this playful, immersive element adds depth and delight to your visit. It’s a chance for all ages to connect with heritage in a magical, memorable way. Let the sound of Christmas lead you through Claydon’s newest festive tradition.

Tickets strictly limited so book now to avoid missing out on the magic!
