Fantastic wander around the historic St Hilda’s district in Middlesbrough ahead of our annual coach tour with the wonderful year 6 children and staff from Linthorpe Primary next month. Exciting to see the renovation work on the iconic old town hall and the amazing public art around the town, both past and present. And thanks to Paul at the Tees Transporter Bridge who loves to share his passion for the bridge and town and who will soon be enthusing the children once again.

We're heading back to the 80's for today's ICI Centenary post, celebrating the humble pasty with a monster 6lb version specially baked to mark Ronnie Dye's mealtime dedication to these pastry delights! This article appeared in the January 1980 edition of the Billingham News, a regular works paper distributed to employees. Ronnie's choice of pasties, pies and sausage rolls for his workday meals hadn't gone unnoticed so to celebrate his 40 years at the company, the Belasis works kitchen decided to present him with this supersized version, full of mince, potatoes, carrots and mixed herbs, with a token salad garnish on the side! Attendant Betty Broomfield handed him the treat from the Belasis Restuarant kiosk, Ronnie's regular haunt throughout his working career. What's your favourite worktime snack?

A blowy but largely dry morning for a lovely riverside ramble to the barrage and back, led and organised by our friends in Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council Stockton-on-Tees Libraries with a fantastic group of heritage enthusiasts to explore stories of people and wildlife along the mighty Tees. We‘re looking forward to our joint workhouse walk later in the year but in the meantime, check out the brilliant John Walker exhibition in the central library and look out for any spare places on next week’s library walk to celebrate the life and achievements of the town’s very own matchstick man!

Teesside Archives had the pleasure of assisting Peter Benson with some research within our service. He then kindly offered to show our volunteers around his exhibition telling us about his processes, research and much more.

Thank you Peter for a lovely afternoon.

Welcome to Teesside has fifty black-and-white images focus on the demolition and clearance of the built environment between Newport Bridge and the Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough, a project that began while Mr Benson was a student at Cleveland College of Art.

Over time, the project expanded to include Port Clarence, High Clarence, Haverton Hill, Seaton Carew, and Hartlepool.

We would highly recommend a visit, Peter will be there for the rest of the week 11am to 3pm.

Launching our zine anthology, podcast and exhibition inspired by the legacy of 1980s feminism in Teesside

Join us for a cheeky midweek party at Teesside Archives, to celebrate the successful conclusion of our New Sisterhood living history project inspired by the women activists on 1980s Teesside!

From 12 noon there will be a buffet lunch and pop-up creative stations in the Dorman Museum education space, where you can make your own badge and mini-zine, and peruse Tees Zine Works' suitacase library of radical zines.

Take a tour through our exhibition downstairs, then drop in to the Archives, where our New Sisterhood podcast will be playing on headphones for you to check out. Featuring new poems from our participants and poets-in-residence, and fascinating interviews with the women who were there during the 1980s fight for women's and LGBTQIA rights. Flick through some vintage feminist magazines while you listen!

Then at 2pm we will hear live performances from poets and learn some Greenham Common protest songs with musician Sara Dennis. Everyone takes away a free copy of our New Sisterhood printed zine anthology, containing poems, artwork, and personal refelctions by members of Tees Women Poets, Hart Gables, Tees Valley Women's Centre, Middlesbrough Voices, and Connect 360.

This project is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
