A busy day for our officers today! 😅

The day started with a traffic operation organised by our Matrix team.

Officers targeted the operation on roads in Hartlepool and Stockton known for speeding or accidents.

In total, our Special Constables issued:

🚗 9 Traffic Offence Reports (for speeding)
🚗 2 Fixed Penalty Notices (for illegal number plates)
🚗 1 Vehicle Defect Rectification notice
PLUS
🚗 1 Vehicle seized (driver did not have a licence)

Then it was over to Stockton for the opening of the new Waterfront Urban Park and to celebrate Armed Forces Day.

Officers supported neighbourhood policing teams with foot patrols and positive engagement, to ensure the event was enjoyable for all.

Thanks to everyone who said hello! The atmosphere was so positive - well done to our friends at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council 🎉🇬🇧

Keeping Cleveland's roads safe! 🏍️🚗

Whilst you were enjoying the England game earlier this week, our Special Constables were conducting roadside drink-drive tests in Hartlepool.

Led by our Roads Policing Team, officers completed 21 tests on Catcote Road throughout the evening.

One person was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and taken into police custody.

If you're having a tipple during the World Cup...think before you drink. Plan before you drive.❌

A final Volunteers Week message from Special Chief Officer Rob Lynas 🎉

We hope you've enjoyed our posts this week, as we try to give you an insight into the work of the Special Constabulary during National Volunteers Week.

Our Chief Officer Rob Lynas said:

"Our special constables bring capability, resilience, and enthusiasm to every area of policing they touch.

"They have stepped into neighbourhood policing, response, roads policing, public order, searches for the vulnerable, drone support, Medicar, rural crime, night time economy, community engagement and much more - always ready to help where the demand is greatest.

"I am incredibly proud of the model we have built here in Cleveland. Proud that our Specials are not an add-on or an afterthought, but an integral part of how we police. I am proud that we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with regular officers, keeping people of Cleveland safe, upholding the fundamental reason special constables exist and that is to protect life and property.

"Volunteering in policing has never been harder, and it has never been more admirable. Special constables give their time, their skills, and their compassion to protect people they may never meet again. They make sacrifices that most will never see. And they do it because they care about their communities.

"Today and every day, I thank them for their service. And if you're reading this thinking you could be part of the team, please join us."

A new era for Medicar 🚑🚓

This weekend our new Medicar vehicle took to the roads of Cleveland for the first time!

The original car, which will now get a well-deserved retirement, was the first dedicated police-ambulance vehicle in Cleveland Police's history - and was introduced by the Special Constabulary.

Launched in 2018, Medicar brings together two special constables and a North East Ambulance Service paramedic - with the aim to free up resources for both services and provide a faster response to emergencies.

Over the last seven years, the unit has provided life-saving interventions to dozens of people and made significant cost savings for the police and the ambulance service.

Our new vehicle is out and about every weekend, so if you see it, give us a wave 👋 Look out for it's distinctive green and blue 'battenburg' design.

Trained in the latest taser techology ✅

Two of our Matrix special constables, S/Insp Hansford and S/Sgt Burmiston, were trained in the use of 'Taser 10' this week.

The new model allows for use at longer range, increases the number of probes that can be fired and has built-in de-escalation features.

We have several officers embedded within Cleveland Police's Matrix team, who provide specialist capabilities to disrupt serious crime and improve road safety.

They're amongst our most highly-trained officers. As well as taser, they receive training allowing them to use drones, deploy stingers, manage safety on fast roads and police football matches.

Would you volunteer to be part of our Matrix team? 💪

Keeping Cleveland's rural communities safe! 🐑🌳🪺

Did you know the Special Constabulary has a dedicated rural crime team?

Led by Special Sgt Warburton, you'll find the team patrolling East Cleveland and other rural locations, sniffing out crime and suspicious activity.

They work with police colleagues, farmers and other partners to disrupt offenders involved in poaching, burglary and wildlife crime.

During 2025, they completed 1,915 duty hours - more than 10% of all the duty hours logged by Cleveland's special constables!

They've had fantastic results at court too, with many people caught by the team found guilty of their crimes.

We're grateful to them for volunteering to keep Cleveland's beauty spots - as well as the people and animals that live there - safe from harm 👏

Meet our newest trainee special constables! 👋

They recently had their attestation, which is a formal ceremony when new police recruits take a legal oath in front of a magistrate.

They will now complete around six months of part-time training to give them the skills they need to undertake their role safely and lawfully.

This includes:

➡️ Theoretical learning
➡️ Personal Safety Training (PST)
➡️ First Aid Training

Courses use a blended learning approach, with a mixture of classroom lessons, virtual lessons, self-study and role plays.

We wish them the best of luck with their training and can't wait to see them on duty soon!💪

It's Volunteers Week!🏅

Throughout the week, we'll be celebrating the amazing contribution of our volunteer police officers, who support Cleveland Police to keep communities safe.

Special constables have the same powers as full-time police officers, but conduct their duties in a voluntary, part-time capacity.

During 2025, our officers completed 16,373 duty hours - with the vast majority spent delivering frontline, operational activity.

During 2025 our special constables:

➡️ Arrested 99 suspects
➡️ Completed 132 crime reports
➡️ Delivered 23 life-saving interventions with Medicar
➡️ Made 27 appearances at court
➡️ Delivered 263 Clare's Law disclosures
➡️ Made 13 drone flights
➡️ Seized 65 vehicles

This week - and every week - we thank them for the sacrifices they make and the time they give to protect Cleveland's communities.

Thank you 👏
