Edgar Wood Society Preserving and promoting the heritage of architect and designer Edgar Wood

Our mission is to help promote and preserve the heritage of architect and designer Edgar Wood in Middleton and the surrounding area, and in particular the Arts & Crafts Church. The Society was formed in 2011 as The Friends of the Edgar Wood Centre (Long Street Methodist Church & School) following the purchase of the property by the Heritage Trust for the North West.

Thank you to everyone to visited us during Heritage Open Days. We've had hundreds of people through the doors from near and far. Someone drove for four hours from Worcester yesterday to see the exhibition.

Thank you to the acts that performed, you made it such a great event overall and hopefully you won some new fans! I spoke to several people yesterday afternoon who were blown away by Ben Floyd Music.

Thank you to everyone who helped out in organising and staffing. It really does take a team, and we have a good one.

And thank you, and Happy birthday, to the Middleton artist and general superstar Steve Whitworth. We will do another exhibition for Steve in the future!

This weekend is the final two days of Heritage Open Days at Edgar Wood's Long Street Methodist Church in Middleton!

Don't miss out on visiting the largest ever Steve Whitworth exhibition!

Tomorrow (Saturday 19th)
11am-4pm
We have a free art workshop with Steve Whitworth from when we open at 11am.
At 2pm we have live music with local superstar, Ben Floyd!
From around 3pm (or just before) we have live music with Peter Stanaway and friends (Gerry Kearns from The Oldham Tinkers). A must see for folk music fans!

Sunday 20th September
1pm-4pm
The final day of the Steve Whitworth exhibition. We have a free guided tour to local Edgar Wood buildings from 2pm.

We are back open at 1pm-4pm today! Steve Whitworth will be running his free art workshop too.

Yesterday was brilliant. Lots of lovely visitors admiring the Edgar Wood masterpiece and Steve Whitworth's exhibition. We had live music too!

At 2pm we have live music by The Bookuleles.

🎶 Big news! The Bookuleles are thrilled to be strumming our way into Long St Methodist Church as part of Middleton Heritage Week! 🎉

It's such a treat to play in this gorgeous Arts and Crafts building — it's a huge part of Middleton's history, and we can't wait to fill it with some uke magic.

We'd definitely recommend popping along to some of the Heritage Week events and having a nosy around the area's stunning architecture. And honestly, what better way to enjoy it than with a good old Bookuleles singalong?

This weekend is the start of Heritage Open Days at Edgar Wood's Long Street Methodist Church!

Come and see the largest ever exhibition of original artwork by Steve Whitworth. Steve has produced over 100 paintings connected to Edgar Wood and his legacy in Middleton.

We have live music and workshops too!

This Saturday, 12th September, Steve Whitworth will be hosting an art workshop so come and get creative! 11am-1pm. From 2pm the same day we have local ukulele group, the Bookuleles giving a live performance.

On Saturday 19th September, local musical superstar, Ben Floyd (2pm) is followed by Peter Stanaway and friends (Gerry Kearns from The Oldham Tinkers) 3pm.

On Sunday 20th September we have a guided tour to local Edgar Wood buildings from 1pm. Walk lasts around 1.5 hours.

Happy Edgar Wood Day!

Today marks Edgar Wood's birthday. The fantastic architect was born on 17th May 1860.

At 1pm today we have a guided walk to local Edgar Wood buildings in Middleton. We start from Long Street Methodist Church and it will take around an hour. The church is open today 1pm-4pm and you can see the David Robinson exhibition.
