One of our team members, Evangelene, shared some of the work she’s been doing to support a student to understand and balance their energy:

“Over the past couple of weeks this young person has been learning all about The Spoon Theory and how it relates to their energy levels. By thinking about “energy igniters” and “energy zappers,” they’ve started to recognise what brings them joy—and what can feel overwhelming. Using physical spoons, they mapped out a typical school day, deciding which “drawers” their spoons belong in at different times. They are now trying to add more energy igniters into their routine to help them manage their energy more effectively and prevent burnout.”

This week we marked 10 years of partnership with Mary Immaculate College delivering unique, neuro-affirming Autism Studies postgraduate courses.

Odhran Hayes-Brennan and his mother Kayren, both graduates of the Autism Studies programmes at MIC, joined the team to celebrate a decade of partnership and impact in autism education.

One of our team members, Carolyn Frazer recently spoke at the Forensic Managed Care Network Learning Summit: Forensic Practice Across Childhood, Adolescence and Adulthood.

Her session, “Practical Supports for Autistic People within the Criminal Justice System,” incorporated the SPACE framework to highlight practical, compassionate approaches that support communication, sensory safety and increased predictability through empathetic, trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming practice.

The session focused on improving experiences and outcomes for autistic individuals in forensic settings.
