Manx Shearwaters are fledging (flying away from the islands) now. Bright lights can confuse them and cause them to ground/crash. This content is aimed at maritime users.
The Pembrokeshire islands support the largest breeding population of birds in the world! They are globally important and if they are impacted here then the global population suffers.

Manx Shearwater Rescue have great information and support bird rescue and should be contacted if you have any questions.

You never know what you'll find when beach combing. Regular visitor to Pembrokeshire Sue Morrish from The Eco-friendly Card Company and family knew they had found something special when they came across an intact skeleton washed up with the tide at the top of Marloes Sands beach. 🤩

We assume that the seahorse must have decomposed at the top of the beach as it was still intact and very delicate. Who knows where this one came from? Seahorses are often connected to seagrass beds, but perhaps as they are very difficult to spot, this is because they are slightly easier to see when in seagrass as opposed to seaweed?

There have been reports of seahorses over the years from the Milford Haven Waterway, but no live sightings as yet. If you ever see one, get in touch! Seahorses are a protected species and you can find out more at The Seahorse Trust

And you don't have to be a diver to find them. If you look carefully you might find them snorkelling or even exploring the shore on a low tide.
