Lake District Holiday Cottage Meadow Barn

If you're a fan of the Hairy Bikers you'll love this trip. It's about 35 minutes from Meadow Barn to Roa Island, where Mike Myers was born. From there you can catch a ferry to Piel Island where there is a castle and a pub to explore. You could even stay overnight. Or you could take a boat to see the seals. The Lake District coast is beautiful and waiting to be explored.

This time one of my hobbies, motorcycling, there are some great roads and some challenging roads in the lakes this video shows a route close to Meadow Barn.

Here is a nice walk quite close by to Meadow Barn. Quite an easy one and ideal perhaps for a 'rest' after a day going up one of the larger nearby fells.

Walking doesn't always have to be go up a hill to come down a hill.

This is a beautiful circular walk around the Duddon Valley, (also known as Dunnerdale) within the Southern Lake District, a favourite of Wordsworth's The trail begins by crossing the stunning River Duddon with its crystal clear rockpools, before climbing up the valley side and heading through Dunner...

As well as the fabulous walking near Meadow Barn there are lots of other things to do. Here is a family day trip a short car drive away.

Explore the history of railways and mining at Millom Discovery Centre, with jigsaws, picture books, dressing up and more! What better way to learn?

South Lakes and Furness Peninsula beaches. Aren't they beautiful?

There are 2 beaches that are 15 minutes away from Meadow Barn and 5(!) that are 30 minutes away.

Lake District AND beautiful beaches? What more could you ask for?

What do you do in the Lake District when your legs are tired from climbing the fells? You go to the beach!
This one, Silecroft beach, is 15 minutes from Meadow Barn with a great cafe and loads of parking. I think it's our dogs favourite place.

Last week we went to Swinside Stone Circle or Sunkenkirk. It's one of the best preserved Neolithic monuments in the UK and older than Stonehenge. Nestled on the eastern flank of Black Combe it has been part of this landscape for 5 or 6,000 years.

It's a couple of miles drive from Meadow Barn then a mile walk from the car. Parking is limited but not many people go to this part of the Lakes so you should be ok.

You can walk there without getting in the car. Walk across Duddon Bridge, take the Corney Fell road and turn left into Broughton Furnace then up the old pack horse route onto the fells.

Isn't it magnificent?
