A huge number of faults identified this week including damaged and counterfeit items, electrical test failures, overloaded extension leads, incorrect wiring and cracked wall outlets 🧐

Most were repaired at the time of testing, all counterfeit goods were removed from service and remedial work on the fixed wiring was carried out by MA Electrical. A much safer environment for all in several more local businesses! βœ…οΈ

The 'most' dangerous was a 4000W plate warmer connected to a standard 13A double outlet via 2.5mm flex and a 3-pin plug. A 3000W kettle was connected to the other outlet resulting in significant heat damage to the plugs and wiring behind the overloaded outlet! πŸ”₯

What a wonderful end to the week!

⚑️ 150+ appliances tested for Exmoor Adventures at Porlock Weir and Dovery Manor Museum in Porlock.

βœ…οΈ New bookings for all our services including PAT testing, fire extinguisher servicing and two fire risk assessments.

β˜€οΈ Lots of sunshine!

β˜•οΈ Lots of coffee!

And to top it off, this awesome find to add to my old fire extinguisher collection! 🧯

1970 WP-41 American Badger, 2.5 gallon, stainless steel stored pressure water extinguisher with original markings. These were imported into the UK from the late 70's until around 2000, with later models produced and rebadged for the UK. Every BHS store was kitted out with these from the late 70's until they were replaced in the late 90's when fire extinguishers became red. I'll polish, refill and recharge this one ready to take more wall space in my office... 😬

Have a lovely weekend all! πŸŽ‰β˜•οΈβ˜€οΈ

Early start this morning rectifying fire extinguisher provisions at St Teresas Catholic Church in Taunton πŸ’’

Yesterday - only two extinguishers for the entire Church, Vestry, stores and office. The Foam was hidden from view, minimum class A ratings (flammable solids) not met ❌️

Today - all fire exits covered with EcoFoam fire extinguishers, clearly visible, securely wall mounted or in stands, fire ratings met βœ…οΈ

Next - St Georges Catholic Church. This will keep me busy until the end of tomorrow! πŸ’ͺ

A counterfeit fire blanket being used on a pan of burning cooking oil! πŸ”₯

More than half of fire blankets I find during servicing are counterfeit and not fit for purpose. All of these have been purchased from Amazon and Ebay and they do not meet the required safety standards.

Fire blankets should display the relevant British Standard (BS EN 1869:2019) as well as the BSI Kitemark to show it has been 3rd party tested, a model number, manufacturer details, clear instructions including pictograms, written in English, indication of it's suitability e.g for class F (cooking oil) fires and that it must be discarded after use. The biggest giveaway of counterfeit blankets are poorly translated instructions.

The first 3 photos show a handful of counterfeit blankets found in the last couple of weeks. The 4th is a suitable blanket I fitted recently along with photoluminescent signage. Sometimes they look legitimate, but the blanket itself is often single woven and ineffective! To demonstrate this I will post a video of a counterfeit blanket being used on a pan of oil as I cannot post photos and videos simultaneously πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Please don't purchase fire fighting equipment from anywhere other than reputable retailers. Alternatively, I keep a large stock of these and can supply any size required πŸ”₯

The Eagle-eyed will also notice the two fire extinguishers have not been commissioned and the pressure is too high! Both are over 10 years old, have never been serviced and should have been refilled twice, or replaced 5 years ago! πŸ₯΄

πŸ”₯ INTERMEDIATE FIRE RISK ASSESSMENTS πŸ”₯

After a growing need for this locally, we are now pleased to offer this service!

Monika (my wonderful wife) has worked hard over the last 12 months and is now qualified to carry out intermediate fire risk assessments and fully insured. As many of you are aware, she manages a local care home so this service will be offered on a limited basis. High risk training begins in the near future but this is a great place to start and will cater for many local businesses. For any FRA related enquiries please feel free to send Monika an email in the first instance or call me directly if you have an urgent request:

To say I'm proud of her is an understatement! On top of the pressures of managing a care home she has worked tirelessly, studying and building a portfolio of 'live' on site fire risk assessments as part of her assessment. She is determined, focused and hard working so you are guaranteed a thorough and reliable service!

To top it off, I am also pleased to partner with Martin Angell at MA Electrical who provides fire alarm system installations and testing, emergency light testing and all aspects of electrical work. Based in Minehead, Martin is very well known for his professionalism, reliability and workmanship!️

To book any of these services please feel free to contact Martin directly, or myself if you prefer, and we can make the necessary arrangements:

We are looking forward to collectively providing a complete fire safety service across West Somerset and Exmoor! βœ…
