10 years ago, our volunteer crew were called upon to assist in a rescue off the Minehead coast.

Looking back at incidents like this gives us a chance to remember the dedication and professionalism of our volunteer lifeboat crew, who are always ready to respond when someone needs help.

While our equipment, training and procedures continue to develop, one thing hasn’t changed — the importance of staying safe around the water.

🌊 A few simple reminders:
• Check the weather and tide conditions before heading out.
• Tell someone where you’re going and when you expect to return.
• Carry a means of calling for help and make sure it’s accessible.
• If you’re heading out on a boat, wear a suitable lifejacket.
• Know what to do if things don’t go to plan.

And remember, if you find yourself in trouble at sea or on the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

🌊 A Very Special Visit to Minehead RNLI! 🚤💙

This week we had a fantastic visit from Arlan, who brought along his very own DIY Atlantic 85 lifeboat! 🚤🧡

What an incredible project! So much thought, creativity, time and hard work has gone into bringing this brilliant little lifeboat to life — all with the amazing goal of helping raise money for the RNLI. 🙌 We’re sure you’ll agree he’s done an absolutely brilliant job! 👏

All set up at the Watchet Boat Event, on The Esplanade Watchet.

Come down and meet the Water Safety Team and get some advice how to stay safe on and around our amazing coast line.

We are also holding a Lifejacket Clinic between 11am and 2pm so if you have a Lifejacket and would like to learn how to inspect and maintain you jacket to make sure it’s ready to use if needed.

On Friday 21st August 2026, our Water Safety Team will be at the Watchet Boat Event, on The Esplanade at Watchet, between 10:00 and 16:00hrs.

Why not come along to meet the team and find out how to stay safe while enjoying various activities on and around our amazing coast line.

We will be holding a Lifejacket Clinic between 11:00 and 13:00hrs, so if you have a lifejacket and you would like to learn how to check to make sure they are in good working order in case you need it, please bring it along.

Could your business help save lives at sea? 🌊❤️

The RNLI relies on voluntary donations to save lives at sea, and every donation, however small, makes a difference.

Many wonderful local businesses already support the RNLI by proudly displaying an official collection box, helping to raise vital funds for our volunteer lifeboat crews and the lifesaving work they carry out.

We’re now looking for more local businesses and community venues to join them. Whether you run a shop, café, pub, hotel, reception area, visitor attraction or community venue, having an official RNLI collection box is a simple but meaningful way to support your local lifeboat station.

It all adds up, and your support could help make a real difference when lives are at risk. 🚤

Our local RNLI Collection Box Secretary, Philip Pegg, will supply the official collection box and arrange to empty it periodically, making it easy for you to support the RNLI.

🚨 CREW PASS OUT NEWS!! 🚨

We are delighted to announce that Amelie Anderson and Beki Singer have successfully passed their Shore Crew assessments! 🎉👏

Both Amelie and Beki have now qualified as Shore Crew members, supporting our D-Class and Atlantic 85 lifeboats.

Our Shore Crew play a vital role in the safe launch and recovery of our lifeboats and volunteer boat crews. They also ensure our lifeboats are cleaned, fuelled, checked and ready to respond at a moment’s notice — day or night, whatever the weather. 🌊🚤

Just like our volunteer boat crew, our Shore Crew are ready to respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. They are an essential part of our lifesaving service, and we simply could not do it without them.

A huge congratulations to Amelie and Beki on this fantastic achievement, and a special thank you to Lifeboat Trainer Assessor Sean Phillips for supporting them throughout their training. He said “ In the short time both Amelie and Beki joined the crew, they demonstrated the skills and knowledge in preparing our lifeboats safely and contributed to help those in need”

🚤 BOATHOUSE VISITS Fancy a look behind the scenes? Our Visits Team run tours of the lifeboat station, giving you the chance to find out more about our lifeboats, crew and the work that goes on at Minehead.

🌊 LIFEBOAT PRACTICE Our lifeboat normally launches for Sunday morning practice at around 9–9:30am, returning at approximately 11–11:15am. It’s always worth keeping an eye out if you’re down at the harbour!

And don’t forget, we’re OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK, 10am–4pm. 🛍️

So if you’re in Minehead, come on down to the harbour and pop in to see us. You never know what little treasure you might find! ⚓️💙
