The National Art Library (NAL) first opened in 1837 as the library for the Government School of Design. It moved to its current location in 1857, situated in the beautiful and historic reading rooms overlooking the John Madejski Garden at the Victoria & Albert Musuem in South Kensington.

It holds the UK's most comprehensive public reference collection of literature on the fine and decorative arts, including books, journals, exhibition catalogues, auction house sales catalogues, comics, e-resources, children's books and Theatre & Performance research collections and much more.
