Last night, we carried out RTC (road traffic collision) drills using the tirfor winch, airbags, and V-struts. The high-pressure airbags were deployed in conjunction with chocks, to safely lift the vehicle and create clearance from the entrapped casualty.
To simulate a vehicle resting on its side on a banked slope, we utilized a Tirfer winch combined with ratchet straps to secure and position the vehicle. V-struts (tensioned buttress struts) were then strategically placed and tensioned to provide robust stabilization, preventing any unwanted movement.
This equipment is strategically located across our service, and we regularly train to maintain and refresh our competencies.

We are currently recruiting and have one candidate progressing through the recruitment process. If you’re interested in learning more, feel free to come along for an informal chat or to see what we do. We’re at the station every Tuesday from 19:00 to 21:00 and would be happy to welcome you.

It was great to have a visit from 1st Ivybridge Scouts last night. Fantastic group of kids. They learned a bit about what it takes to be a firefighter and got hands on some of the equipment to see how it works.
Well done to all involved.

The rain is coming down in Devon and Somerset, and we have had multiple calls to rescue people from vehicles trapped in floodwater today.

If you see floodwater, turn around – even shallow water can be dangerous to drive or walk through, and your vehicle can become stuck and even swept away in just 30cm of flowing water. There may also be hidden dangers, like open drains, damaged road surfaces, submerged debris, or deep channels.

There is more useful information about how to be safe in severe weather conditions in the link in the comments below.

Low temperatures combined with the recent rain are likely to make driving conditions challenging today.

Make sure you assess and drive to the road conditions, being mindful of the risk of black ice, which you may not be able to see.

Our advice for driving adverse weather can be found in the link in the comments.
