It's Time To Say Goodbye, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Adieu!

After 11 great years in the sewing room, having met so many lovely people, I am sad to announce that I will no longer be trading as Spinney Brook Workbox as of the 1st March. Unfortunately the sharp rise in insurance costs have beaten me.

Had a lovely day sewing with Louis and his Dad, Max. Max had bought a new sewing machine and wanted to get to grips with using it and had brought fabric and a vintage pattern to make an American style bowtie; a great first attempt.

Louis, being very tall wanted to work out how to take in the extra large shirts he has to buy in order to get the length.

A very successful day. So lovely to meet you both.

Jan came for the morning to add another skill to her creative projects. She makes rugs using wool from rare breeds, now she wanted to try her hand at some freehand machine embroidery to broaden her stock for her market stall.

It is great fun "scribbling" with your sewing machine, I think the results are lovely. Looking forward to seeing your creations Jan.

First class of 2024! Welcome back Mary and Sandra. Mary's daughter gave her some lovely fabric; an African print and she made a really lovely tote bag with a zip pocket inside.

Sandra was working on the patchwork for a fabric box - photo to follow at the class next month.

Yesterday Natalie returned for a second class, she wasn't sure what she wanted to make, but had some lovely Dalmatian print fabric. Her two year old is mad about Dalmatians so it made sense to make her a dress. Lots of new skills, but it went together well and I hope she loves it.

It was a lively day in the sewing room with Caroline and Pauline, long standing great friends who wanted to spend a day together building on their sewing skills. They had been working on some appliqué projects, but it had been slow and not produced the results they wanted. I showed them some easier techniques and they have gone home planning Christmas gifts!

Look forward to seeing you both again in the New Year.

8 years ago Cheryl bought a sewing machine, in the meantime she has been steadily collecting fabric from where she has lived in the Far East. Today she got to grips with the machine and has the confidence to start using her lovely stash.

The bag looks great Cheryl, I'm sure you are going to have fun with your machine and I look forward to seeing you again in January.

Maggie and her 11 year old daughter Eleanor came to sew together. They wanted to try a modern machine and get some basics under their belts. After mastering threading and some simple techniques they moved on to the spinneybrook workbox tote bag. Well done ladies wishing you lots of fun with a new sewing machine.
