Off-Road Wheelchair Ramble Whitestone - limited car parking 25th October

We are holding an off-road wheelchair ramble on Saturday 25th October, starting at Whitestone forest carpark. Parking spaces in the top carpark will be reserved for wheelchair users taking part in the ramble until around 4pm.

Alternative car parking for able-bodied visitors will be opened up across the road from the lower Whitestone carparking area. We would appreciate your help in parking there, if need be, so that everyone can enjoy Whitestone.

We will be rambling for about 8 miles, passing Cleddon Falls and around Beacon Hill and the Duchess's Ride. ! Off-road wheelers are coming from far and wide to explore the wonderful countryside of the Wye Valley National Landscape, so if you see us out and about give us a wave and say 'Hello'.

You can find out more about the access work we have been doing here: https://ow.ly/sS6k50ZYIlP

Thanks to Natural Resources Wales for supporting this event.

Chepstow Walking Festival kicks off a week today, with 21 fantastic walks on offer.

If you fancy a geological walk, there are just a few tickets left for our 'Beneath our Boots' walk on Sunday 25th October, when geologist Steve Bennett and Ruth Waycott, from the Wye Valley National Landscape Team, will be rambling through the geology of the lower Wye Valley. We will be finding out what really is beneath your walking boots in the Tintern area, before heading up to Offa's D**e and the limestone rocks making up the Devil's Pulpit, with its fantastic view down to the sandstone ruins of Tintern Abbey.

Like to walk with your dog? Walk 9 on Saturday 24th October is dog friendly combining views, historical sites and folklore. Starting at the Kymin you will visit three remarkable ancient stones - The Suck Stone, The Hearkening Rock and The Buckstone, as well as a Trig Point!

The festival is put together by the amazing team from Chepstow Walkers are Welcome. Find details of all the walks and book here: https://ow.ly/nPh450ZY0Is

Back by Popular Demand! Biofluorescent Walks
Whitestone, Tues 27th Oct 2026 5.30 & 7.30pm

As part of our work to raise awareness of the importance of Dark Skies we are delighted to welcome back expert David Atthowe from for an unforgettable experience that will open your eyes to the breathtaking beauty of nature’s hidden secrets. Delve into the enchanting world of biofluorescence and uncover the wonders that await in the darkness.

Biofluorescence is a unique phenomenon where certain organisms emit light in different colours than the ones they absorb. From fungi to insects and plants, many species come alive with vibrant hues of green, blue, red, purple, orange, and more.

With UV torches provided, we will venture into the woods to discover this captivating natural phenomenon and witness a stunning display of biofluorescent organisms in their natural habitat.

PLEASE NOTE: this is a guided night time walk along woodland paths, which be uneven, and possibly wet and muddy, for 1/2 mile. Come prepared with waterproofs and warm clothing as the pace of the walk is slow. We recommend walking boots or wellies so you don't get wet feet.

The walk will take place even if it is raining.

Children aged 8 years and above welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.

🌙 Help us make the Wye Valley National Landscape darker, greener and more wildlife-friendly!

✨ We’re inviting small businesses and local communities in the Welsh part of the National Landscape to get in touch about funding available to help reduce light pollution. Thoughtful lighting can make a big difference, helping to protect our dark skies and nocturnal wildlife, while still providing safe and welcoming spaces for people.

These before and after photos show how changes to lighting can transform a place at night, reducing glare and unnecessary light while creating a warmer, more sensitive atmosphere - good for us and good for wildlife, which is too often negatively impacted by light pollution.🌌

💡 Could your business or community benefit from support to improve its lighting? We’d love to hear from you if you’re interested in finding out more about the funding, what it could cover, and whether your project might be eligible.

Please get in touch by emailing: [email protected] before 30 September.

This is part of a joint project across all the National Landscapes and National Parks in Wales, funded through the Welsh Government’s Sustainable Landscape Sustainable Places programme. It is only available for communities and businesses on the Welsh side of the Wye Valley National Landscape. Successful projects will need to demonstrate a significant positive impact on the landscape. For further inspiration see Welsh Government’s Good practice guidance: planning for the conservation and enhancement of dark skies in Wales https://ow.ly/IImM50ZPL9N

Interested, but living within the English part of the Wye Valley National Landscape? Take a look at our Dark Skies Position Statement to find out what you can do to help. Info here: https://ow.ly/9pmc50ZPL9O

Let’s work together to protect the dark skies and special character of the Wye Valley National Landscape. 🌿🌙
