Dear all,

This page is going to be closed down for a little while.

It has been a pleasure serving the people of Morecambe and Lancaster as a Councillor, community leader and champion.

I wish my successors on the Council well in everything they do.

I have a lot to be proud of as a Councillor, especially the Baylight events, the “Slow Down Save Lives” campaign, saving the 33 Bare Circular bus, campaigning for the new hospital and the Eden Project.

I have given my heart and soul into making our area better.

Time for the next challenge in life.

PS Look at the headline in the picture. The BBC don’t mess about do they!

Things I’ve done as a Councillor

Part 3: Baylight

In 2021, I promised to “Bring back the Morecambe Illuminations”. It wasn’t an empty promise. I managed to get £500,000 investment from the County Council to put on a new light art festival for three years.

In the past three events, over 100,000 people have flocked to the promenade in Morecambe, and gave the local economy a boost of over £3 million.

When I say I will do something I will move heaven and earth to make it happen.

That’s why I’m asking for the support to continue to be a Councillor. How great would it be to do something exciting like this for kids and families in Skerton?

Out and about on Barley Cop today, listening to residents and how about this for a story:

I met a lovely lady who told me she would never vote Labour again. She’s been working hard, saving up to buy her own house but Labour have ended the “Right to Buy”.

Hundreds of thousands of people got the chance to own their own home through this scheme, including senior Labour politicians, so it feels cruel and unfair to see the ladder taken away from good hard working people.

Happy birthday to my love, Sophie.

She’s supported my political career throughout our relationship, you often never see what goes on behind the scenes, but Sophie has been our family’s rock. We love you.

ONE WHOLE YEAR!

On 27th April 2024, Louie and I both got a bit of a bug on holiday. I didn’t drink for a week or so. I thought why not go another few weeks. Weeks became months. And today, it became a year.

Ever since I’ve had kids, my alcohol intake had reduced hugely anyway. It’s just not been my priority. And so going out for one or two pints became pointless to me.

I’m still very pro-pubs! I love supporting these pillars of the local community. And Guinness Zero is pretty much sold universally now, and long may that continue!

But it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I love being a parent and I want to live until I am 100 and a great grandparent 😂😂

So cheers everybody, health and happiness to you all 🙏

Morecambe South, I think that’s a wrap!

I’ve just sent my final casework email in my official role as the County Councillor for Morecambe South.

I have dealt with over 800 individual cases in 8 years. Some big, some small, but every one important to the person who raised it with me.

We haven’t had success on all of them, but by hell we have tried.

I’d like to thank every single person in Morecambe South, Torrisholme and Westgate for giving me the privilege of representing them over this past eight years.

Next week you get to vote for a new Councillor. I wish all the candidates the best of luck and whoever wins, my door is open for advice and support. Bring biscuits.

Community politics is a pretty thankless task, but so rewarding. I’ve loved trying to make Morecambe a better place.

Onwards to my next challenges in life.

It’s a pleasure to have supported the Prom Fest through the Lancashire County Council Local Members Grant Scheme this year.

If I am elected again next week, my door is always open to local charities and groups and events who want my support.

What have I done as a Councillor?

Episode 2: Roads 🚘

2017: Before the election, I reported over 500 issues ranging from broken streetlights and potholes to bigger issues like problem parking and poor junctions. Once we were elected, we put an additional £10 million into the Highways pot in our emergency budget.

2018: Lancashire looked at a new technology from JCB (which Reform are now saying would magic the problems away) which we dismissed as too expensive and not effective at sealing the pothole after it’s filled.

2019: The “worst road in Morecambe” Thonock Road was resurfaced. It had previously been the subject of a Visitor article asking people for the worst roads in the town, I campaigned tirelessly to get it prioritised.

2020: I managed to get resurfacing projects on Borrowdale Grove, Rosebery Avenue, Richmond Avenue, Essex Road and Lathom Grove.

2021: I was appointed the Cabinet Member for Highways, and successfully lobbied the Government for the highest amount of funding Lancashire had ever received at the time.

2022: We started to dig up an old runway near Blackburn and used the raw material on rural roads, which has so far saved the Council over £5 million in materials, as well as being good for the environment.

2024: Ennerdale Avenue on the Branksome Estate was resurfaced, another campaign promise delivered.

2025: Since being selected as the candidate for Skerton, I have focused on raising the issues of residents here. Potholes on Peel Avenue, Broadway, Pinfold Lane, Lymm Avenue, Marshaw Road, Ingleborough Road, Whernside Road and Woodlands Road have been reported 👍

Also 2025: I voted for a further £45 million to go into the roads. The current Councillor for Skerton did not vote for it. That extra funding has meant that Torrisholme Road is going to get resurfaced later this summer.

👎Reform’s “quick fix” for roads doesn’t work
👎Labour didn’t vote for highways funding
👎Greens want us all to cycle everywhere

🔵 Please place your trust and faith in me. I will never stop working hard for residents, whether you voted for me or not.

This is a truly devastating story. RIP Ryan and god bless all of his family and friends and loved ones. ❤️

This is a truly devastating story. RIP Ryan and god bless all of his family and friends and loved ones. ❤️

The family of a teenager who died after a collision on the M6 at the weekend have paid a heartbreaking tribute to him.

Emergency services were called at just after 12.15pm on Easter Sunday (April 20th) after a Peugeot van left the carriageway between junctions 34 and 33 southbound near to university hill and crashed into a tree.

No other vehicles were involved.

A 14-year-old passenger in the van suffered serious injuries and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The van driver, a man in his 30s and father of the passenger, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains.

Our thoughts are with their loved ones at this time.

The boy who died can now be named as Ryan Liam Morgan from Morecambe.

In a tribute his family said: “Ryan, our precious boy. There truly is no one like our Ryan, such a beautiful soul and so far from typical. Words can't express how much we have loved and cherished him and how much we always will.

“The most funny, silly, loving, generous boy, who literally could not stop talking. He was always making his little sisters giggle or giving them cuddles when they were sad. He made them their bottles and read them stories at bedtime. He was such a family lad choosing to stay home with us sometimes when his friends wanted him to go out.

"He tried to put on a laddish attitude but it made us laugh because he was so soft, sensitive, kind and lovely. Every time he had pocket money he would go to the shop and buy everyone else treats and forget himself.

“He adored his dad and would stand at the window asking "when's dad coming back?" every five minutes. He would help his dad take off his work boots when his back was gone and ask how his day was.

"They loved playing Fortnite and arguing over who got what loot, watching Liverpool and Blackpool FC together, having wrestling matches and father-son talks about his love life. He would cuddle his mum and ask if she was ok when she looked stressed saying "oh mum I don't know how you cope with these kids, they're such hard work!

“He would follow mum around the kitchen when she was trying to do jobs showing her silly videos on YouTube and telling her about every little detail of his day. He welcomed so many people into our family life, most of all his big sister Cat who he was so close to. Telling tales on her, winding her up, begging her to go to the shop, play Xbox or cards with him, and most importantly having a friend to talk to about everything.

“Our home and our family will be so empty and quiet without him (singing Blackpool FC chants all day and night, making annoying noises to wind us up, or his new craze gangsta rapping). We wanted to see him grow and be the beautiful father and loving husband we knew he would have been.

“All we know is that he is in the arms of our saviour Jesus Christ and he is safe with Him now. We will see him again one day and be able to hold him ourselves. We will be waiting and longing to see him, every day and every moment until then.”

His mum Kim added: “Ryan Liam was the most perfect precious little boy you would ever see, and he grew to be more beautiful every day. He was the most amazing son to Kim and brother to Primrose and Summer and we will miss him as long as we live. Our hearts have a hole that will never heal, and we can’t express enough the devastation this has caused our family. We are eternally heartbroken. RIP our perfect beautiful Ryan Liam.”

We are continuing to appeal for information and footage.

Anyone who can help should call 101 quoting log 0503 of April 20th. You can also email the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at [email protected]

Shared from Grosvenor Park Primary School:

I am writing to you on behalf of Grosvenor Park Primary School to request your support for our very first mini-festival, GRO Fest, which will be held on Saturday, 21st June 2025 at our school.

This exciting community event aims to raise funds for our school whilst bringing our local community together and we anticipate attracting over 500 attendees from the local area.
To enhance the festival experience and raise additional funds, we are organising a raffle with fantastic prizes. The raffle will not only provide an opportunity for attendees to win exciting rewards but also help us to make some much-needed improvements to our outside areas, buy further resources to enhance the provision in our growing Nursery provision and to donate some of our profits to our chosen Charity, North West Cancer Research.
We believe that your business/organisation would gain valuable exposure by contributing to our raffle. In return for your generosity, we would be pleased to offer the following recognition:
Your business/organisation's name will be prominently displayed alongside your donated prize on our raffle prize display board.
Your business/organisation will be acknowledged during announcements throughout the festival.
Your business/organisation will be thanked in our post-event social media and/or newsletter communications (if applicable).

We are seeking donations of all types of prizes, large or small.
Your contribution would be greatly appreciated and would play a significant role in making our mini-festival a resounding success.

If you are able to support our event by donating a raffle prize, please contact me at 07765 383136 Email
[email protected] by 31st May so we can arrange collection or delivery of the prize.

Thank You

Lisa Newton
