The A1 through Northumberland has been talked about for far too long now we need to see real progress.

I was pleased to co-sign this important letter alongside North East MPs, Mayor Kim McGuinness and the Leader of Northumberland County Council, welcoming the commitment to find a way to fund the improvement and ultimately the dualling of the A1 from Morpeth to Berwick.

For our communities, this isn’t just about transport. The A1 connects people to jobs, schools, hospitals, businesses, family and the rest of our region. Recent tragedies have also reminded us why improving safety must remain an absolute priority.

It is good to see MPs from across the North East joining together with regional and local leaders on something so important to Northumberland.

We need immediate safety improvements alongside a credible, funded, long-term plan for dualling.

Northumberland deserves an A1 that is safer, more reliable and fit for the future. It’s time to turn decades of discussion into delivery.

💛 330 attendances in August! 💛

Preventing loneliness and social isolation is at the heart of so much of what we do at Hadston House.

Throughout August, we’ve had an incredible 330 attendances from our senior members across our activities, trips and social opportunities. 🧡

But behind that number are 330 opportunities for conversation, friendship, laughter and connection, and sometimes simply a reason to get out of the house and spend time with others.

A massive THANK YOU to all of our wonderful members who continue to support and take part in what we do. And an equally huge thank you to our volunteers and staff, whose time, care and commitment make these activities possible.

Together, we’re helping to tackle loneliness and build a stronger, more connected community. 🏡☀️

🌹 AMY SPRIGGS SELECTED FOR AMBLE! 🌹

I’m delighted that Amy Spriggs has been selected as Labour’s candidate for the Amble by-election.

Amy has lived in this area all her life. She was schooled here, has worked here and has built her life here. This isn’t somewhere Amy has simply arrived in recent years these are the communities she grew up in, knows and cares passionately about.

Through her work at Hadston House, Amy has spent years delivering services directly to residents in Amble and Hauxley, supporting local people and building relationships across the community.

For the last five years, Amy has worked alongside me, gaining valuable experience of community work, helping residents and seeing first-hand what it takes to get things done. She understands the area, understands the issues and is absolutely ready to hit the ground running from day one.

Amy is young, enthusiastic, hardworking and full of energy. She brings fresh ideas, but importantly she also brings genuine local roots, knowledge and experience.

We also want Amy’s selection to help create a renewed sense of teamwork for Amble and the wider area.

Amble and Druridge Bay are adjoining divisions, and the issues affecting our communities don’t suddenly stop at a line on a council map. The councillors representing both areas need to work together as a team, sharing information, tackling problems together and giving our communities a stronger collective voice.

That approach worked previously when Terry Clark and Scott Dickinson worked closely together, and it’s something we want to bring back no egos, no artificial boundaries, just councillors working together and getting things done for local people.

Amy has grown up here, been educated here, worked here and already serves people here. Now she’s ready to take that commitment even further.

Lovely to visit a resident in Widdrington today and even better to drive along Grange Road without vibrating all the way along it! 🙌

I’m really pleased that the funding secured has finally resulted in the road being properly resurfaced, after far too many delays.

It was frustrating and frankly embarrassing that I eventually had to bring the BBC down to Grange Road to help get the action residents had been waiting for.

But the important thing is the work is now done, and I’m absolutely delighted for the residents and everyone else who has to use this road every single day.

Sometimes you have to keep pushing, but it’s great to finally see the result! 🚗👏
