UNISON Northumberland County Branch

UNISON Northumberland County Branch Public service union based in Northumberland covering a variety of employers and workplaces.

UNISON is Northumberland's biggest and liveliest public sector trade union with 5,000 members across the county. Our members are people working in the public services or for private contractors providing public services and the essential utilities. They include frontline staff and managers working full or part time in local authorities, colleges and schools, probation, community and the voluntary

sector. Our branch is run by a committed group of individuals who believe passionately in public services and the public sector ethos. We represent members over one of the largest geographic spreads in the UK. Our members do a variety of jobs ranging across administrative, catering, social care, cleaning, caretaking, security, secretarial and teaching support to name but a few. On behalf of our members we negotiate for pay and conditions, help individuals in trouble and campaign for a safer, fairer society. We hope our new Facebook site will be a useful tool to you and keep you abreast of how negotiations are progressing with your employer as well as keeping you up to date with UNISON news.

💜💜UNISON members' petition for non-toxic period products at Northumberland County Council needs your support - will you sign to help? 📝

The Council should be greatly applauded for the provision of free sanitary products in its bathrooms but as with anything, there is always room for improvement. Research is increasingly showing that most commonly purchased brands of period products contain toxic materials which are potentially detrimental to women's health.

Following local discussions with UNISON members since March this year, your UNISON branch has now formally asked the Council to improve it's complimentary period product provision by switching to non- toxic products. We've also launched a petition supporting the request and encourage staff to take a minute to sign in support.

The petition is receiving lots of support at our stall at County Hall today. Please click on the link to add your name and support the request: https://forms.microsoft.com/e/hJfeaS1jvF

PS. At this time the petition is only open to employees of Northumberland County Council.
