The waste at the top of Stamford Rd has now been removed so this ticket can be closed off. I am meeting with a waste supervisor in the town in the morning to visit some sites with the intention of reducing the problem of waste and fly tipping. This does however, need to start from within our own community. Together we can do this!

ADULT SOCIAL CARE & PUBLIC HEALTH UPDATE

As your Councillor for Stalybridge North and Shadow Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, I’ve been in committee meetings pushing for better services and real accountability for Tameside.

Here is a quick summary of what I’m tackling on your behalf:

🔍 Demanding Better Care Standards

Care Quality (CQC): It’s been years since our last in-house inspections, and performance likely needs improvement. I’ve demanded a full, in-depth report on this for our July meeting.

Is the "New Front Door" to care working? Right now, there is no data to prove this new system works. I am chasing the council for the data they promised in the coming weeks.

Financial Scrutiny: Tameside spends £340m on acute and mental health care. I am pushing for a full review of this budget so we know exactly where your money goes.

🤝 Supporting Families & Fairer Care

Unpaid Carers: We need to better support families who care for loved ones.

Independent Scrutiny: The council is looking to bringing the 'Healthwatch' provision in-house. I am fighting to ensure we keep an independent body to check on care providers without bias.

🍏 Health & Well-being

GPs & Prevention: I raised the need for better GP support regarding weight management and preventative healthcare.

Community Safety: Confirmed the council is still working closely with TLC to support victims of domestic abuse in our borough.

The Bottom Line: A major "Transformation Plan" is coming to remodel Tameside's care system. I’ll keep asking the tough questions to ensure Stalybridge North gets the high-quality care it deserves.

It was great to visit Livingstone School this afternoon for their two year celebration of “School Street”
The initiative was started to promote and create calmer space outside the school gates to improve safety and build a feeling of independence and confidence in the children.
The programme also encourages walking or wheeling to school to reduce traffic sound schools at peak times.
It was fantastic to witness the understanding and awareness of this in the children who enjoyed face painting and drew their own pictures and messages on the School Street mural. Well done to the school staff, governors, parents for making and most if all the children School Street a success.
Let’s hope that the program can be adopted by more schools across the borough.

Huge thanks to Tami and Anthony from Anthony Barton Independent Family Funeral Service for sponsoring our brand new band polo shirts 👏👏👏

As a band with strong links to our local community, it seems fitting to have sponsorship from a local business with community at its heart ❤️

I know they are also proud to have their name associated with the band and we look forward to continuing to work together in the future 🎺🥁🎶

Today I spent the day at the opening session of the public enquiry into the Network Rail, Stalybridge to Diggle electrification and extension works which includes to moving and building of the new Mossley railway station. It was a long but interesting day being able to hear the opening statements. There are concerns in Mossley as to the impact on residents around Manchester Road, Mill Lane, Archer Street and beyond in relation to the working practices. In order to make statements and further representation to the enquiry we are holding a public meeting of our own tomorrow evening at 7pm in the Fleece opposite the market ground on top Mossley. This is not an objection to the project but to make representation to the implementation processes. Please come along and have your say.

Small and local businesses are the heartbeat and lifeblood of a community, especially here in Mossley.

I have spent most of the weekend at Woodend Mill visiting and speaking with some fantastic small businesses, artists, creators and community groups. The feeling of positivity and community spirit is beyond infectious and the enthusiasm is only to be commended and celebrated. This is a wonderful visitor experience where families and individuals alike from Mossley, and surrounding areas can participate in creative workshops or just browse the dozens of small businesses and studios or cafe.

The volunteer team have been working for some years to secure funding and have been working tirelessly on the upkeep and renovation of the building to support the vendors and there are still opportunities for new businesses to join the journey at the mill. There are more exiting and bigger things to come here so we need to support and celebrate this.

I didn’t get chance to speak with every occupant business, but look forward to doing so over the coming months. I’m the meantime I’d highly recommend a visit. Please see the link below for more information and to see what is going on.
