Newhailes House & Gardens NTS 17th century villa set within an 86 acre estate on the edge of Edinburgh. Newhailes is a beautiful 17th century villa in the outskirts of Edinburgh.

Historic house, Weehailes playpark, woodland walks, ice cream and traditional sweet shop and new courtyard cafe and a wide range of events make for a great day out. It was the home of the Dalrymple family for more than 300 years, and has been in the care of the National Trust for Scotland since 1997. The house and the wider estate tell the fascinating story of 300 years of history, touching upon t

he minutiae of family life as well as major international events. The house is open to the public, and guided tours can be booked online at www.nts.org.uk/Newhailes
The Newhailes Stables have recently undergone a major regeneration project; converting the old dairy into an amazing new takeaway coffee and ice cream shop, and the stables into a brand new cafe and a beautiful admissions space! We also have a monthly market within our courtyard, the third weekend of every month.

Did you know that International Bat Night is this weekend?

BAT WALK NOW FULL

Look out for local bat related actives, at Newhailes one of our wonderful volunteers is running a bat walk from 8.30pm on Saturday, please drop us a DM if you're interested as numbers are limited with only a few spaces remaining.

What to expect:

Yesterday we were delighted to welcome Gleeds Architects and Harris Bugg Studio, members of the project team helping to shape our exciting Centenary Garden, for a day of volunteering.

It was fantastic to see the people involved in designing and delivering this ambitious project getting stuck in. The team spent the day salvaging historic stone from around the estate and removing invasive plant species.

The Centenary Garden is a major project looking ahead to the National Trust for Scotland's centenary celebrations in 2031. The garden will create a beautiful new space that connects the history, landscape and future of the estate, while providing opportunities for people to enjoy, learn and engage with Newhailes in new ways.

There’s lots happening behind the scenes as the project continues to develop. A huge thank you to everyone from Gleeds and Harris Bugg Studio for giving up their time, getting stuck in and helping us make progress.

Join us for Haunted Newhailes — a spine-chilling after-dark tour through one of Scotland’s most atmospheric historic houses. Your guide will take you through the rooms and share some of the strange and unexplained experiences reported by residents, staff, volunteers and visitors over the years.

Playful Summer is coming to an end! 💛

We’ve had an absolute blast this summer and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has come along, supported us and joined in the fun. It’s been wonderful seeing so many happy faces enjoying the summer with us! 🌸✨

We cannot thank all our fabulous followers enough for sending in so many new pigeons to join our much-loved flock. 🐦❤️

These new fellows have really lifted our spirits and helped us feel more positive following the heartbreaking theft of some of our flock.

It means so much to see the kindness and creativity of our wonderful supporters coming together to help rebuild our pigeon family. 🥰
