Some Year 7 students enjoyed writer's workshops today with the local published author Ryan Sutcliffe. Ryan read an extract from his most recent published book and talked to the students about how he became an author. The students then wrote the opening of their own thriller with Ryan overseeing this. A big thank you to Ryan and well done to the students.

We had a bake sale yesterday, held by the Calder Deaf Club to raise money for the National Deaf Children's Society.

We have raised so far £242 (including those that paid via just giving and those that paid cash) and we still have some donations coming in via the just giving.

Yesterday afternoon, our up and coming Year 9 GCSE Music students enjoyed a fantastic trip to the Victoria Theatre in Halifax to see the English Chamber Orchestra in concert.

Before the performance, we stopped at The Piece Hall for lunch, where preparations were underway for tonight's McFly concert, giving students a glimpse of another side of the live music industry. The afternoon provided a great opportunity to experience high-quality live music, spend time together outside the classroom and get to know fellow musicians ahead of starting the GCSE course.

A lovely afternoon of music, culture and friendship.

The Creative Arts and Media Exhibition on Thursday has been postponed due to the heat. A new date will be announced shortly.

☀️ Hot Weather Arrangements This Week in both Calder Primary and Calder High☀️

To help keep pupils and students comfortable during the hot weather, we will be making a few temporary adjustments from Wednesday 24th June:
☀️Pupils and students may wear their full school PE kit including trainers if they would like to. This is optional, we know that for some young people they prefer the routine of their uniform.

Important reminders:
• PE shorts should be worn appropriately and not rolled up.
• Please bring refillable water bottles. These can be refilled at breaks and lunchtime.
• Pupils and students are encouraged to apply sunscreen before school.
• Hats and sunglasses may be worn outside, and pupils and students are welcome to bring handheld fans if they wish.
• This will be in effect from 22nd- 26th June and we will be monitoring it and reviewing it for next week.
