Our excellent team out supporting our excellent candidate Craig Smith for the Long Whatton & Diseworth (and Belton) byelection this morning.

Great to see so many Young Conservatives joining us recently, even better to see them out campaigning with us 🙌

All three villages done in less than 90 minutes 😱 leaving time for a well deserved cold beer 🍺 in The Plough, Diseworth.
Thanks everyone

NWL CONSERVATIVES PIZZA AND POLITICS ! 🔵💪

What a fantastic evening at our Pizza & Politics night at Zamani’s in Ashby!

With over 30 members and supporters joining us, there was a real buzz in the room and a genuine sense that our Association is growing, rebuilding and getting ready for the battles ahead.

A huge thank you to Pejman, Kate and the entire team at Zamanis for their wonderful hospitality and for keeping everyone very well fed with some absolutely delicious pizzas! 🍕👏

And a particularly big thank you to Heather Wheeler OBE for coming over to support us. Heather spoke with real authority, drawing on her considerable political experience, and gave us plenty to think about as we look towards the future.

These events matter. They bring our members together, welcome new people into the Association and help us build the strong campaigning team we will need for the next General Election.

The energy is returning. The membership is growing. The team is rebuilding.

NWL Conservatives are back, and we’re only getting started. 🔵

The Conservative Party, under the leadership of Kemi Badenoch, has developed a clear plan to get Britain back on track.

That plan involves:

🏡 Abolishing Stamp Duty, helping millions to own their own home, move, or downsize.

💷 Cutting £47 billion in wasteful government spending and using the savings to cut taxes and slash the deficit under our Golden Economy Rule.

👑 Leaving the ECHR so Parliament, not foreign courts, decides who comes to Britain.

✈️ Deporting all illegal immigrants and foreign criminals.

💡 Repealing the Climate Change Act to lower your energy bills.

👮🏻‍♀️ Hiring 10,000 more police officers to cut crime, and getting them off social media and catching real criminals.

If that sounds like the right plan to you, then please join the Conservatives today and help us make it reality:

There’s a big difference between winning an election and being ready to govern.

The resignation of Reform councillor Helen Butler from Leicestershire County Council should raise some serious questions.

Reform swept a large number of new councillors into County Hall last year. Since then, we’ve already seen two resignations from their group and another councillor walk away to join Restore.
Standing for election shouldn’t be something you do on a whim. Residents put their trust in you for four years, and taking that responsibility seriously requires a huge commitment of time, energy and hard work.

Nobody expects councillors to predict every change in their personal circumstances. But political parties do have a responsibility to make sure the people they put before the electorate understand what they’re signing up for and are properly prepared to do the job.

And there’s a cost to all of this. Every by-election triggered by a resignation can cost the taxpayer around £25,000 to run. That’s public money which could be spent on local services rather than repeatedly going back to the polls.

Residents deserve councillors who understand the commitment they are making and are prepared to see that commitment through.

Public office isn't about getting elected. It's about being prepared to serve.

Labour has been accused of treating the hospitality industry with “contempt” in a warning that red tape and tax rises will fuel youth unemployment.

An official impact statement for Angela Rayner’s signature employment reforms found they would have a negative impact on companies, by forcing them to contend with new red tape, extra staffing costs and lost revenue. It found the plans could impose “eye-watering” costs of up to £3billion a year on businesses
