I recently met with representatives from Briar Homes and Speirs Gumley at the Barony Rise development.

I’d like to thank them for taking the time to show me around the site and for providing a detailed overview of the measures being put in place to help reduce disruption for local residents.

It was important to raise the concerns that have been shared with me, and I welcome the steps being taken to address these. I will continue to monitor progress closely and stay in touch with both the developer and factors to ensure that the community’s voice is heard throughout.

If you have any ongoing concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

This week I’ve been out meeting and working with local residents to discuss how we strengthen our local bin and litter strategy across Barrhead, Liboside and Uplawmoor.

I want to put on record my sincere thanks to the many community volunteers who regularly give up their own time to organise litter picks and keep our streets, parks and green spaces tidy. Your efforts make a real difference and show the pride people have in our community.

While enforcement and adequate bin provision are important, education is absolutely key. We need to continue working with our schools, youth groups and community organisations to promote responsibility, respect for our environment, and an understanding of the impact litter has on wildlife, public health and council resources.
Tackling litter isn’t just about clearing it up - it’s about preventing it in the first place. That means partnership working between residents and East Renfrewshire Council, better awareness campaigns, and ensuring our strategy reflects the realities on the ground.

If you have ideas or would like to get involved in future clean-ups or discussions around improving our bin strategy, please get in touch.

Together we can keep our area clean, welcoming and something we can all be proud of.

📣 Scotland qualified, but thousands of families in our Labour-led council won’t get to celebrate together.

Scotland’s men’s team has earned a place at the World Cup for the first time in 28 years, a moment that should bring communities together and be a source of national pride. The Scottish Government secured a national bank holiday on Monday 15 June to give people the chance to celebrate this achievement.

Yet today we learned that Labour-controlled East Renfrewshire chose not to give thousands of workers a day off to enjoy that success. While national holidays like the King’s Coronation, the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and similar one-off events were recognised in the past, this once-in-a-generation football celebration won’t be honoured in many areas.

This isn’t just about football, it’s about fairness. If we can come together for other occasions, we should be able to come together to celebrate Scotland on the world stage too.

➡️ The SNP will continue to stand up for workers and communities across East Renfrewshire so that national achievements are shared by all, not just a few.

🚨 EXPOSED: LABOUR'S BACKROOM DEAL WITH THE TORIES 🚨

Since the 2022 election, Labour has been running East Renfrewshire Council not on progressive values - but on a dodgy backroom deal with the Tories.

Yes, the Tories. The same party that’s underfunded our public services, driven up the cost of living, and undermined Scotland at every turn.

Labour promised change - but instead, they’ve propped up Conservative power in our community for over three years.

🟡 Meanwhile, the SNP has always stood up for YOU. We don’t strike secret deals with the Tories - we stand on principle and fight for a fairer, more progressive East Renfrewshire.

🗳️ On Thursday 21 August, vote for someone who’s truly on your side.

Blair McDougall voted for disability cuts. Yes, really.

Labour MP for East Renfrewshire, Blair McDougall, backed Keir Starmer’s deeply controversial welfare bill -originally designed to slash support for disabled people, including cuts to PIP (Personal Independence Payment).

Under pressure from charities and Labour MPs, Starmer was forced into a last-minute U-turn -scrapping the harshest parts and delaying changes until 2026. But the damage is done: McDougall and others still voted for a bill that would have gutted disability benefits if not for a major internal revolt.

🔴 49 Labour MPs rebelled.
🟠 McDougall didn’t.
💷 Bill still leaves a £4–6 billion hole in the budget after watered-down reforms.

📍 In East Renfrewshire alone:
➡️ 3,444 adults receive PIP.
➡️ 1,430 children and young people receive Child Disability Payment.
That’s over 4,800 people locally who depend on disability support - people McDougall just voted to put at risk.

This isn’t just bad policy - it’s a betrayal of some of the most vulnerable members of our community. Voters in East Renfrewshire deserve answers.
