There are still moderate numbers of mosquitoes about but the recent poor weather has limited their activity and the biting nuisance. This poor weather is forecast to last for the next few days and so the biting risk is likely to be low. However the mosquitoes will survive, sheltering in hedges and bushes, and will re-appear if the weather improves.

We are keeping a close eye on the forecast for tomorrow, but we will still be open! We imagine some traders will take a holiday week but the regulars will still be here. PLEASE try to come down to support them. The forecast is looking ok for the morning, with high winds coming in around lunch time. We therefore recommend an early visit, stay safe!

The number of mosquitoes caught in the traps has climbed further this week. The usual autumnal surge is advancing, much as anticipated. This species of mosquito can withstand remarkably cool temperatures (many even survive a mild frost), rain and winds by “hunkering down” in bushes, long grass and other vegetation, only to re-emerge again under more favourable conditions. In exposed areas, few will be active and the biting nuisance will be low but if the weather is fine and/or you are in sheltered areas, there may well be a significant biting risk for you and your pets.
