Here’s some things to think about when it comes to Fire Protection in a residential property.
- All doors to habitual rooms (not bathroom) need to be FD20 (fire resistance period of 20 minutes).
- Intumescent paint can be used to upgrade your doors, exposed steels or any timber.
- Doors can be upgraded with intumescent paint but must be solid, in good condition and fitted well.
- When upgrading doors with intumescent paint, you need to paint the room side only.
- Each door needs to be fitted with 3 fire rated hinges.
- Each door must have a fire seal. Seals can be rebated in to the door or we can provide a surface mounted seal that sticks straight on to the frame.
- Fire protection must be included within the build between first floor ceilings and loft floor. If this has been missed then we have other easy options to fix this like ceiling Intumescent paint.
- Think your about neighbours, what have they had done? If they also have some type of loft dorma then fire proof cladding, plasterboard are available and should be fitted to stop flames spreading between the dorma roofs.
